~The Dark Oskel~
The peoples of Perthro were more fishermen than actual farmers. Much of the food was provided from the sea. The Perthrians were attached to the sea, and it wasnt surprising that the Sea Serpents were considered divine. These serpents or 'Oskel' had temples built for them in the costal cities. Apparently these Gods would ensure better fishing and higher returns from the sea. As the nation expanded they encountered the Yonu Funeshi. A great serpent that lived in the caverns near the ocean. It was much greater than common serpents. And in fact it wasnt a common serpent. It was one of a kind, one that had survived many years and considered an 'ancient one'. It demanded human sacrifices or else the Nation of Perthro would come to suffer great storms that the beast would create. Great storms that would destroy much more than the few fishing ships already built. The king of Perthro, after hearing the news consulted with his high priests and decided that the Yonu-Funeshi could not be one of their gods. The Yonu Funeshi was a God of Evil, or so he claimed. So instead of sending one fair maiden to be offered to the serpeant as tribute, it sent his armies to the caverns. Like most armies of this time, it had quite rustic and early weaponry. Nothing too sophisticated, mostly leather armor, wooden shields and makeshift spears (copper tipped, bronze was not discovered yet). Their numbers were great however, no less than 5,000 men were sent to destroy the giant beast. They however have to divide themselfs to look for the Yonu Funeshi as the caves and caverns were large and very dark. The water was always up to the knees of the soldiers and lighting for the most part was pitch black.
One division had looked for a couple of hours. Its captain ordered the men to sit down and eat something. They had stoped in a less dark part of this particular cave. There were a few small holes on the top and some sunlight made its way through. Their food was simple but filling, some prepared fish and bread covered with dried up sea weed. They were short in water and had to ration it. However this cave was very peculiar to some of the men. The floor felt soft and squishy and the air was filled with a strange smell. what is this place?, one of the men asked. Perhaps we are standing on some sorth of plant or soft mud. The other soldier took his spear and poked the ground. Once and then again. Nothing had happened, but the place was covered with a strange silence. The kind of silence that filled everyone with fear. Then suddenly a medium breeze struck the soldiers. The captain raised his hands and ended the small ammount of time for lunch. but the soldiers were not eating. The breeze was rithmic, and a few started to freak out. Then they felt something on the ground. More and more started poking it with their spears. It wasnt long until a great noise covered the caverns. The other divisions heard it and ran to where they believed it came from. The floor shaked to the few men that felt the gound squishy at first. And all of the sudden the roof fell on them. The Yonu Funeshi had awakened. How foolish of the captain, that peculiar small cave was the open mouth of the serpent. The men filled in rows (or at least those that did not run away). They shaked with fear. The echoes of their comrades could be heard as they were swallowed alived by the Yonu Funushi. Then its eyes began to open. They were bright and clear. Their color was green, the kind of green that appear on the grass of early spring. The copper tips of their spears did not go through the scales of the monster. But the Yonu Funishi did not attacked back. The men were confused but knew that the worst was about to come. The waters in the cave began to rise. The men freaked and started to run away. But this particular division would not make it. Only 7 men survived, and most became mad. As the waters rose the caverns became a death trap. There was no escape. The other divisions stoped and started heading to the exists. Another divison was trapped in the caverns and drowned. The water pressure was such that the last few men that made it out were in fact pushed by the waters. The seafearing people were glad to be outside in solid ground with the sun on their faces. They had lost friends & relatives. Brothers and neighbors. The men were so scared that after leaving the caverns they dropped their armor and weapons and started heading home. the captains could not stop the men, they were also very afraid. A last sight at the coast and the caverns by the soldiers was the Yonu Funeshi leaving the caves and heading to the sea. In a few hours clouds covered the sky and great thunderstorms struck the kingdom of Perthro. Most fishing ships were destroyed and the there had to be much reconstruction of the costal cities. In the end 2 divisions of perthro were lost. However although the division that encountered the Yonu Funeshi had almost comepletely drowned, the second division had as many desertions and soldiers going insane as deaths by drownings. 4,500 civilians died due to the storms. It was a bloody spring.....
~War in the North East~
The Lord of Hagalaz had seen his neighbors for quite some time and thirsted for the lands of Wunjo. But he waited, he waited until the distance between borders was not so distant. Eventually the time came and he raised a large army. The king sent his armies to conquer wunjo. In fact he told them not to stop until all of it had fallen. However his strategy was different to his wishes. He wanted to avoid battles and costly results of storming cities. So he directed his forces to advance in force, surround a city, starve it and then attack it. This took an awfull lot of time, but it worked. A city had fallen, and now the next city was worried about the advancing enemy armies.
~The little war of Eihwaz~
Eihwaz had started its war with Isa. It had 5 divisions and acted quickly to take as much as it could on that front. The divisions were able to manouver around one of the cities and capture it. They however had to give up the siege of the second city. Eihwaz could have been able to crush Isa by taking a few more cities. The armies of Eihwaz had 16 divisions on the field. However the vast majority had to be sent north. Jera had been called up by Isa for help. And Jera did sent help. The Emperor of Jera was very cautious. In fact he spent many months thinking of every detail and possibility. The entire army of Jera was that of 13 divisions. However the emperor was too paranoid and only sent 9 divisions. And so on the banks of the river Vimur, two armies would go head on. The numbers were almost the same, man by man. 9000 man strong each. However the leadership was different. The Generals of Eihwaz planned with greater strategy, while the Generals of Jera concentrated more on tactics and organization. It was also ironic that both sides marched straight into the other.
On paper the strategy of Eihwaz was very well drafted. However war in the real world is very different than in paper. The plan called for the use of rafts to use the Vimur river to cut off the Jeran Army and destroy it. But the People of Eihwaz barely knew how to build one. They didnt even have the basic technology of fishing. The soldiers were scared to use these 'rafts'. In fact the Vimur was very fast on some points. some rafts were built and some were successful. During the battle both fought bravely, but one last factor would decide the battle. Something unexpected, but enough to ensure marginal victory to Jera. The waters of the Vimur River became faster as strong storms appeared on the valley. (YES, these were the remnant storms created by the Yonu Funeshi in the south east). The waters became even more dangerous than usual. Rafts broke and many soldiers of Eihwaz were carried by the current and killed. These were the desperate reinforcements needed when the battle was in its most critical. Eihwaz had still been able to hit Jeran forces from behind and the sides and so the battle was bloody. In the end Jera lost 4 divisions, while Eihwaz lost 6. Eihwaz retreated, but the Jeran were in position to follow. It was a marginal victory for Jera, and more blood was on the horizon.
~Raiding for Education~
The leader of Anzus has found a way to fund his research program. Raiding his neighbors. It has worked as the people of Raidho were unprepared. War was declared.
~Bestiary Expansions~
Fehu tried to domesticate the
vegetable lamb. However they havent been succesful. They did attract a lot of wild ones to their special fields, bringing some unexpected money. +1 on Research
The nations of Thurisaz and Ansuz continued to hear terrible noise from the Mikehli mountains. What they found looks like a rook, but can make a terrible noise. The creature lives in a pine tree. The bird is called
Raicho, a thunder bird. They are hard to catch as they live deep in the forests of the mountains.
Between the Ulthar Mountains and the Amnisiades River, a great creature has been found. a Pachyderm of great size (related to the now extinct elephant). the
Elerecki resembles an elephant, but is two and a half times in size. It also has six tusks (the male) and two trunks. They are giants (although the juveniles and babies are said to be sometimes carried off and eaten by the Roc bird of Ulthar. Algiz, Berkano and Tiwaz have access to these great animals. (horseriding tech required to tame them)
