Nerds in Space

Looking good. We should be able to lay some smack down. At least on some non-core AI cities. Keep an eye out for enemy reinforcements via galley!

Think we should queue up some more Catapults before we launch?

Yeah, we will probably need a lot more catapults. I don't know what I was thinking, but I completely forgot to build them and focused on the AT-APs instead. :smoke: :cringe:

Well, the iron came online pretty close to the end of my turns. I started a Praet in the first city that could build one as soon as it completed whatever it was working on - I just didn't change any builds to create more. You can veto current builds in favour of more Praets :)

Alpha Squad, are you in position?

Affirmative.

Delta Squad, are you in position?

Affirmative.

All systems go, Operation Nerd Assault to begin in 10, 9...

Spoiler :
We probably don't have long until Saladin has Feudalism so let's make the most of it. Start the attack next turn. Re-supply the front with whipped troops from the frontier cities.

Wow, didn't realize Saladin had Machinery + Civil Service already. Pretty scary, our Praetorians are already outmatched. Well, I think we can do this! We'll teach those Arabs to exist in the same space-time continuum as us!

Is there any chance that we can beat Civil Service out of Saladin? In my opinion, a Golden Age is subpar on a big water map since you don't get as many +:hammers: as you would on land, but the +:commerce: isn't significantly higher. Could be wrong.

I always enjoy a Trade Mission, though.

Okay, I'm up here, too. Jeez, I'm irresponsible!

Roster:
Rex >> Up (having swapped with Ozzy)
Ozbenno << Just played
Pigswill
Bindamel
Whosit
mlinneak << Just Played
Pholk (better off without us)

Okay, all. I played five turns, but I don't think I should have. I'm soliciting advice.

If this were a single player game, I would have just started over, but I'm a quitter, quitters never win--but they also don't waste hours of their lives trying to survive on a goddam Arab island swarming with mace men and horse archers, either.

Anyhow, this was the power graph when I started.

We were ahead, but this was deceiving. Sally switched to whip mode the moment I declared and he has some big cities. I should have known that Sally was set up well when he attacked our stack outside of Najran right before my second turn. He took out the war elephant I was going to shock promote--before I had promoted him.

Here was the damage before I had even attacked...

Less than confidently, I took Damascus...

and lost it next turn.

I have southern survivors (about four beat up dudes) set up in a forest between Damascus and Mecca, waiting to die. I have another Praet and an Ax one turn away on a galley. (We also lost a loaded galley to a trireme that was parked in one of the cities.)

I have northern survivors, who have never attacked, except to lose two catapults when I tried to thin the city. That was before I counted and realized that defenders minus attackers equaled one. I'm sorry. That was just made of stupid--and not the good kind they have in New Zealand.

Anyhow, here's the save for anyone who wants to laugh at me. I feel like I just threw the game away on this. I could play over from Ozzy's save, but that's sort of cheating around here. (I do it all the time in single player.)

Or we can go out Pholkhero style and just tank the thing away.

After getting my tail handed to me, I really don't care.

Perhaps we should consider a non-military means of victory? Kind of sucks that the invasion didn't go as planned, but Saladin was more advanced than we thought, I guess. We can probably figure something out.

Dunno what just yet. I'll look at the save tomorrow, probably. Maybe. There's like two other games I'm supposed to work on.

these SGs use to fly along ... multiple turns in 1 day. Either we are all getting bored of Civ4 or we really miss the guiding hand of greyfox :D.

I just can't find the time lately, for some reason, or I just forget. It's all drifting away . . . .

I am not sure what we can do - I don't know if we just didn't have enough troops to begin with or what went wrong.

Since we are Nerds in Space though, I was assuming we were trying for a space victory, was this incorrect?

We may have to just plow through until we can get a cease fire with Saladin and move on. That would be my vote currently.

I think we used to be more entertaining. You know, I would F-up. Fox would tell me what an idiot I am. I'd yell at him for being anal. Entertaining.

I think what went wrong was me following Ozzy.

That is not incorrect.

Works for me. Who's up?
