I didn't actually choose the opponents - I left that as random. I think Sumeria's strength was partly due to an abundance of luxury goods in her area throughout the game.

Ok, but you can't deny that the scientific and agricultural are strong traits. Sumerians also have a very good early defender UU.

I think I will take the path of neither confirming nor denying the strength of the Sumerians. I don't have enough experience with them to see a pattern of their performance relative to other AIs. Their defender is a cheap spear - painful to go to war against in the early AA. And yes, they did do well in my game which could have been a result of:
1) Strong traits
2) AN abundance of available luxury goods
3) They managed to avoid early wars on their continent (from the point I knew of them, which helped them establish a tech lead
4) Once in the lead, they made a lot of money from tech and luxury sales so that when they went to war, they could afford to buy the dogpile on their opponents.
The early running on the Sumerian continent was actually being made by the Zulu, which is why I put them into war against the Mayans.

I don't know if I have answered your question. I am not entirely sure that I am qualified to. Why do you ask? Do they keep rising as an uber power in your games?

I will post something here when I am next going to do one of these story games. I actually did the conquest game of the month since it was a standard map (shorter game) and regent level. I didn't take extensive notes on it though.

Actually I'm not sure because I haven't played too many games against them. Usually they are at least moderately powerful.

OK, I have started another one on Deity, although while the start looked promising, the way I am going it may be one of the quickest games posted in this area.

Awesome game, Sandman. Loved the regular screenshots - so many story writers don't put them in, and it really does help to engross the reader in the game!!! By the way, where can I find your Deity game thread?

Thanks Lord Parkin. My deity story games are in my signature (below). I actually did three, but the first I should have abandoned early instead of writing a story on it becaiuse I found myself in the impossible situation of being on a small island squeezed between two deity opponents, so after a very quick loss, I tried again.
