I'm not going to use nukes anymore - not after my latest game! So it's 1996, I'm the largest civ by a factor of 2, with 40% of the world's area, about 30% of the population. I have 3 parts of my spaceship built - but the Indians have 7. We are on different continents, and our capitals are well defended, there's no way either of us could easily launch an effective conventional attack.

So, I use the 5 nukes I have just to flatten their largest cities, hopefully delaying their spaceship production. BAD idea.

In the following ten years, we're both still at 3 and 7 spaceship parts respectively, but the entire world is kicking my ass, and my power over the world's affairs is seriously diminished, and I'm in danger of not even finishing the spaceship at all...

What should I have done instead???

What did you expect? That all the others would just keep smiling and kissing you? Think about what using nukes would do in real world.

Using nukes is rarely an option. Why didn't you just invade their island with bunch of modern armors and radar artillery?

You should have declared war on them, signed MAs with the rest of the civs against them, and then nuked them.

The AI is less likely to get mad at you for using nukes if you have a MA with them. Unless, of course, they're the civ that gets nuked.

With enough people delcaring war, they probably (YMMV, no guarantees here!) would have changed over to war footing and maybe, maybe, started building something else in the city that was producing SS parts.

If you want to win my SS then I would do as thetrooper suggested. You don't say what level, but on most you should be able to build parts faster than the AI.

Anyway if you are twice their size, you can take them down by force. Do you have the UN or is it disabled?

Anyway 5 nukes is not enough to do much damage. If I go with nukes I will want to hit each target with 3.

Since your goal is to delay/stop their space launch, that could be easily done that by sending a carrier full of bombers to take out their aluminum (IIRC, 8 out 10 space ship parts require aluminum). If they are importing aluminum, just turn their trading partner against them. For around 400 gold (this figure based on the usual asking price during the modern age), the AI would declare war on any one. The bottom line, all trade routes in/out to that civ will be cripple. Of course, your mistake was that you should have done this around the time they start their spaceship project. It may be a little late now, but better late than never.

Sabotage production in the espionage missions.

Sabotage production usually costs a fortune! To take sabotage a spaceship or a Wonder, it usually cost around 2000 to 7000 gold for each attempt. Way too expensive for my taste!;)

If you wanted to take out the indians dont use nukes ! they will all declare on you if you use them , just use plain old tanks ....

Nah 2-7k is nothing in the modern age ;)

It is expensive, but if that's the last straw to clutch unto, I'd go for it.

Sabotage is just one of many options, but the cost is doable and is a bargain, if it is the best option you have. The thing is you will need to take some permanet action. Otherwise they will just start the part again. If you only need a few turns to get caught up, then fine do it once or twice.

Really?;) Since the average income usually is around 2000 plus/minus 1000 gpt during the modern age (assuming you don't use Ring/Palace placement exploit which doesn't work in C3C anyway), 2-7k gold is really a lot of money to throw away like that. :mischief: If you have that much gold to throw away, give it to charity! There are always some poor AI in the game that could use your help.

I was just joking. :)

And what do you think of the other part of my post that you didn't include in your reply?

but even with sabotage production, UNLESS you have very good shield production, you cannot catch up in the race.

I still won't do it!;) What can I say, before I leave this world for good (either die of old age or launch my spaceship or whatever), I rather leave my life saving to charity than spending it all unnecessarily.

What you should have done is MPPs with all, then declare war, and sit back and let the AIs fight while you concentrate on Space ship parts.

No, not MPPs, MAs. For MPPs you have to wait until you get attacked. Much better to sign a MA with a civ against that civ, then to wait to be attacked. Especially if you're gonna use nukes. They'll all cancel that MPP and attack you anyways.

But I've never had a civ sign a MA when we are both at peace with the target civ...

Tried to before, with trading them lots of techs, luxs, resources, all my money, and tons of GPT, for a MA, but nothing works.
