If Firaxis is anything like most game designers, then it will completely ignore the origional version now that the expansion pack is out, and simply patch warlords from now on.
Firaxis is not planning on releasing any new patches for Vanilla Civ4. Patch v1.61 was the last patch.
Danicela said:NO. This has been discussed a lot before, even if there is Warlords, there will still be patches for the stand alone of Civ4, having an expansion is not a reason to stop to patch the stand alone, and doing it would be intolerable.

warlords forces you to upgrade cIV to 1.61.
if you were someone that had to go back to an earlier patch you were affected and based on firaxis' track record I doubt they would put a check in the warlords install to not force the patch if there was a higher patch out there.
Heck they could not even afford to make sure text worked in win98 upon warlords install! (there is a really easy fix though - check the tech support forum)
Danicela, I asked several Fireaxis developers the question if they were going to release another patch for vanilla Civ4 after the v1.61 patch and they said they were not going to.

The sad fact is that they messed up big time moving to 3D on this one. The non-standard hardware profiles of PC games meant that they needed a LOT more testing before they released their software, testing they decided they couldn't afford.
Now, 6 months in, they're rushing out an expansion to get more cashflow so they can keep the machine rolling, but they still haven't sorted out the technical problems, nor have they demonstrated that they can release even as simple an expansion as this bug-free.
My prediction: 1 more expansion in about 6-8 months (in time for Xmas?), maybe a patch for Warlords between now and then, and a patch for the next expansion thereafter, then you'll be playing Civ on consoles only.

MrCynical said:Sorry, but the idea of any turn based strategy game, let alone Civ, going purely console based is laughable. The Civ series would end before that happened.
MrCynical said:Sad fact is they had no real choice. Publishers, reviewers and a significant segment of the public insist on a reasonable standard of graphics,

Again, it's not that simple. PC's and consoles are very different markets, with very different demographics. As long as there is a buck to be made on PC strategy titles we'll see them around for sure.Enkidu_Warrior said:My prediction: 1 more expansion in about 6-8 months (in time for Xmas?), maybe a patch for Warlords between now and then, and a patch for the next expansion thereafter, then you'll be playing Civ on consoles only.
CIV5 exclusivly on console? What have you been smoking, they would never do that. Not unless the console has a keybord and a mouse.Enkidu_Warrior said:My prediction is that civ 4 is the last they'll make for the PCs.
