I am offering to GM a Standard Game of Diplomacy to begin once I have seven players confirmed. Please post here, private message or e-mail me (fbinda @ comcast.net) if you wish to play. country preferences will be GM whim. Please be advised that a 'Play By E-mail' Diplomacy game will generally take a few months to finish, and that the commitment of all players to play out the game will greatly increase the fun for everyone. Posting publicly in the this forum is highly encouraged; Copying me during international private negotiations is optional but welcomed. I will check orders for accuracy and notify individuals if there are obvious errors or inconsistencies if there is time for me to do so (so get those orders in early!). I will also give reminders 24 hours before orders are due. Anyone who fails to submit orders on 2 consecutive turns (inlcuding retreat and build phases) will be considered to have dropped out of the game and I will seek a replacement. No 'NMR' will be allowed in the first year - anyone NMR-ing in the first year will be immediately replaced and the game put on hold until orders arrive from the new player.

This is a Standard 18 Centre win game but any winter after the fall of 1908, there may be a vote held (must be unanimous) by all surviving countries to end the game and declare the country with the most centres the winner. The players may also vote a draw, with all surviving powers to share equally in the tie. I am going to allow approximately 5 days of negotiations between each move phase and have 24 hour deadlines for retreats, and additionally 24 hour deadlines for disbands and/or builds. I will make sure no orders are ever due on a weekend, as some people only have access during the week. We should average one full turn a week, and two full years of play a month.

If you fail to submit orders, your country will go into 'Civil Disorder' and all units will hold with although dislodged units will still be allowed a retreat, if they may legally do so (no automatic disbandment unless there are no other options available). If you fail to submit a retreat the unit disbands, if you fail to submit disband, I will choose for you (generally the furthest from a home centre not on a supply centre) if you fail to submit a build, the build is considered waived.

Reasonable requests for postponements will be accepted, but I reserve the right to disallow them if they arrive within 24 hours of a deadline.

If you haven't already done so I urge you to visit this site http://realpolitik.sourceforge.net to download and install a little Diplomacy utility that will make it much easier for you to follow the game. I will be submitting to all players '.dpy' file with every seasonal adjudication, so you can get a better idea on how the results went.

I will create a new thread one the game is underway.

I'd love to play. However caveat needed :)

My wedding is in one week and I have a honeymoon for the week following that...

Timing for me may be awkward in the early going... If this is a significant problem obviously don't consider me for the game. In this case my other priorities are a bit more important.

I would be honored to play, though I am not as experienced as most folks here.

I'd likke to play, however, downloading software is not one of my strong points. If I don't successfully download it, or can't figure out how to deal with .dpy files, what happens?

I usually leave the email game set up (in the basement on a game board) and study it before making my orders. If we get results in a way I can follow, it should be no problem not to have maps on the computer.

I'd like to play - but I'm involved in two games at CDZ. Let me know if you're desperate for a 7 th player.

Um downloading is not a problem, I can download. Once I get the program downloaded, I am usually lost. I downloaded MOO 1.3 and it just sits there, I can't get it to run. I'll try downloading realplitik tonight and report what I get. If I don't get it, can I play, or will the movement results only be available using that program?

I appear to have successfully downloaded realpolitik. I can get a diplomacy map. Using it looks complex, but possible. I'll look forward to trying to load a .dpy file once I get one. So I am in if you want me.

Good to see interest in the game. How do people feel about getting this one underway in 2 weeks time to accomodate Kabuki? I find that taking time to get the crew assembled is generally OK but once we start, I would want to avoid serious delays as it causes interest to wane.

So far I have:
Toasty
kabuki
Bill In PDX
barron of ideas
Kitten OF Chaos

That is 5.

I have col as an optional player and I also have interest from another player currently unable to post in the fora.

Just for your information with respect to exact dates:

I'll be "offline" from the 28th of May until the following Sunday or so. I'll be fully online from the 9th or 10th of June (depends a bit on where you count the days).

The first turns shouldn't take excessively long so if we start Friday two weeks from now I should be able to post turns that weekend (I only have a laptop and it is coming along).

I have no country preference, but if someone could direct me to an up-to-date set of rules that would be really cool as I haven't exactly kept current. :)

I'm in, if you still need players. I used to do a lot of PBEM with friends. Do I just need to install that realpolitik software mentioned above? Let me know.

Yes, you'll need that realpolitik software installed.

I won't be posting much here until we start as I'm dead busy, but you all know you can rely on me to give it all I've got because I'm very competitive.

If you sign up people, only do so if you are going to give it your all. Dropping out once we start will mean I may go pretty nuts...

If we add in 'oh slappy' and 'col', that makes seven.

I will replace col if anyone else shows up in the next week or so per his wishes.

Tentaively, I am considering revealing what player gets what country on June 7 (Monday) and then giving a week for the players to conduct diplomacy and having the first adjudication June 14.

I will need everyone's e-mail address to send results to the players. Just send me an e-mail and I will use that address.

Also, does anyone wish to suggest a name for this one?

I will replace col if he so desires ;)

Please contact me by email. linoleumblownaparte [at] yahoo [dot] com. I look forward to an interesting game!

I suggested D-day in the email our GM requested. D could stand for Diplomacy, and the countries are being allocated (almost) on D-Day June 6th. Well, June 6, 2004 is the 60th anniversary of the event in Normandy in 1944.

OK it looks like we have our seven - substituting Pontiuth Pilate for col. Erikk I shaill designate you first alternate, if ANYBODY nmr's spring 1901, you will replace them and given some time to negotiate.

I still need some e-mail addresses - I have barron's and Bill's and Pilate's and I may have old addy's for kitten and toasty.

I like barron's name suggestion, so the game will launch the evening of June 6 in honor of D-Day's 60th anniversay.
