New Civilization page

It says that Bismarck is the most significant figure in German history. Erm... surely they're forgetting someone?

No, no no, Bismarck is the guy who Brilliantly outmaneuvered the Austrian empire and beat it in six weeks. This is the man who CREATED the German empire.

Nobody tell us, that we won't get beautifully designed rivers. Very pleasing artwork :goodjob:

He really is. The guy you're thinking about was just one man at the head of a larger movement that would have gone on just as it did without him, and virtually nothing of his legacy remains anyway. Bismark was far more significant.

More crappy FLASH. You would think a cutting edge company with decent programmers would have moved to HTML5 by now.

I'm sure Fraxis programmers would have no problem moving to HTML5, however it does not depend on them. Why coding in HTML5 when Firefox 3.5 is not fully compatible and Internet Explorer doesn't recognize HTML5 tags at all?

It has to do with the end users; most users still run older browser, therefore the site needs to be supported on them.

I work as a programmer for a company that does lots of ecommerce sites; some of our clients still request that the sites we build must be IE6 compatible

No. Bismarck is among the most amazing statesmen in all history, and the prototype of a Civ player. He created Germany out of almost nothing with brilliant diplomacy and a bit of clever warfare. He was kicked out in the end partly because he thought going for a world war would bring ruin to his country - and he was right again.

This page doesn't work for me. It's just the background and a "view all civilizations" link at the bottom, when I click on it, it disappears, but nothing more happens.

Most common browsers don't support half the features of html5

EDIT: I musst agree tho, I don't like flash heavy sites. I would prefer a clear html site than that civ5 flash

I think its kind of neat, I was thinking of doing something similar for a site I run. Without the foreground/background scrolling though. They took it a bit too extreme I think but it can be a nice effect.

PLEASE. :mischief: HTML5 is years away from being used widespread. People with IE wouldn't even be able to see anything HTML5 at this point...

I'm a graphic designer and flash programmer for the company I work at. We recently added an html 5 version of our site for iPad users, it's amazing how many damn work arounds you gotta do to get it to work in each browser out there, and as I said.. IE, no go.

Flash isn't going anywhere just because Steve Jobs doesn't like it. HTML5 will never completely replace FLASH.

It's not a bad animation. If I had just found out about the game, I think it could capture my imagination of the things to expect and keep me interested. Unfortunately, I've been following it too closely so Washington, Bismark, Elizabeth, and a Catapult don't interest me as much.

Mobile SAMs might be new, though.

Another good point, HTML 5 will expand video capabilities but there will still be many things that require Flash.

Meh. I don't want to take anything away from the art team executing it, but I'd have much rather more screenshots or videos (especially those short leader intros)
