new civilization: Turks

Great job. :D

About UU, personally I would make a janissary replace a musketman, rather than a rifleman. I am reading a book about the period right now and essentially janissaries were contemporary to French musketeers of Louis XIV.

The first use of the Janissary was in the 15th century ... and I highly doubt they had riflemen back then ;)

It's a bit of a problem with pin-pointing them like this, since Janissaries were distinguished by their method of recruitment and training, not necessarily weapons their used, since they were in use for several centuries - hence you would find Janissaries of both the pre-gunpowder and gunpowder era.

However, I would say the apogee of their use and influence on European battlefields was in the 17th century, in the gunpowder era. In that they were very much like French musketeers, who combined muskets, rapiers (in case of Janissaries, sabres) and horses for movement (but not for fighting).

Re: Janissaries

Perhaps base them off Musketmen and increase their strength to ten and add an ability of some sort? That or make them cheaper?

This is the list that I'm currently using:

Istanbul
[-cut-]
Van

If u have more suggestions of changes, please, tell me :) I can add the changed city list in the next version of this same civ, I mean, when I've added the second leaderhead ;) Just a rule: the limit of city that I use is 50 names :)
This topic might be old and all but i wanted to comment on this nevertheless...

It would be nice to have the complete official list of cities that are used in area numbering as is usual in turkey.
For a list see here: Turkish Province Codes

Ofcourse for other info on this country, for better civ settings, you can always look at these pages for example:
Turkey - WikiPedia
CIA - The World FactBook - Turkey

Thx so much for what you did... But I wanna say some couple words...
The backgrounds are perfect but Selim I looks like an Arabic leader.Turkish people aren't dark like that.He should have white skin. Also he looks like poor mercant instead of look like a ruler of the empire. Besides Ataturk doesn't look like the real,in here he looks ugly dude :crazyeye: Whatever for information about the Ottoman Rulers visit, http://www.theottomans.org/english/index.asp

Thanks again :)

Here,Ataturk's photos... Maybe you should use them to make change ;) Besides he should wear like a president not like a general cause he is the president of Turkish Republic. For example why don't you put 1920's hat(like in the pictures) instead of hat which is used in battles. :)

As Ataturk was born in Greece, it is likely he had blue eyes.
Just a reminder: Ataturk was born in Salonika, second largest Turkish city after Istanbul in 1881. Turks have lost her possession in 1912, during the Balkan Wars. Salonika is modern day Thessaloniki in Greece, but that doesn't make him "born in Greece". :)

It's true that a majority of the Turks of Roumelia (term used to describe European Turkey until early 20th Century) have fair skin, light hair and blue eyes, however there are many other Turkoman tribes that have settled in various other locations of the Ottoman Empire with similar characteristics.

With the loss of Turkey's European possessions following the Russo-Turkish War in 1877 and the Balkan Wars (except for Eastern Thrace), millions of refugees have have flocked to Istanbul and elsewhere in the country making it more homogenious. Furthermore, the treaty between Greece and Turkey after the Greco-Turkish War 1919-1922 uprooted all the Turks of Macedonia (including Salonika) and they were exchanged for the Greek population of Anatolia (including Smyrna). Tragic for both peoples alike, yet it was considered necessary at the time to craft the unity of Greece and Turkey in order to make nation states instead of multi cultural empires.

There's plenty of turks with a fair complextion and blonde hair and green/blue eyes. My own father is a blonde haired green eyed turk. Turks are not Arabs.
