@GM Nick: MJ a luxury? No way, mon, it's jus' below air and water, slightly ahead of food....
Re:Sub-saharan African civs:
My HO is that more diversity here is needed. Adding civs to represent the Swahili coast AND the Hausa city-states would balance out the game and give proper historic recognition of a continent that is, after all, not much smaller than Asia in land mass.
And don't forget Abyssinia/Ethiopia. A very important civ, IMO, since after the rise of Islam, Ethiopia was a Christian civ cut off from all other Christian civs and so we get a very different and interesting civ...Christian but not part of Holy Roman Empire or Eastern Orthodox churches....
Plus any aspect of the game which stirs interest in areas of history that tend to be overlooked, or serves to decrease the general ignorance of most of us, is in my books a good thing. The caveat being that CIV3 is only a game and for true historical understanding you have to go outside the game and read up on the stuff that truly interests you.
A question to any/all Africanists out there: would 4 civs (Zulus, Hausa city states, Swahili coast, and Abyssinia) fairly represent the diversity of Sub-Saharan African civs? What about "Great Zimbabwe?" (not Zulu).
Civ on!
