It was a total guess. Can't think of any that match those criteria off the top of my head.

Edit: Come to think of it, the modern day nations of Zambia and Zimbabwe used to be named after Cecil Rhodes, but not sure if they count as I'm not sure if there was one or two Rhodesia's in the past.

I've got no clue... the second (lame ass) guess I can make is Jesus Christ (Countries: El Salvador and Trinidad and Tobago), but I know thats not it

You wouldn't be referring to the Cecil John Rhodes now would you?

I'ld say either

1. Cecil John Rhodes:

North Rodesia --> Zambia
South Rodesia --> Zimbabwe

or

2. St. John:

San Juan --> Porto Rico
San Juan --> Guam (though I know it is not a sovreign nation)

Yes! It is indeed Cecil Rhodes. I don't think St John would count, even if they are two sovereign nations, because he's semi-legendary (and in any case, are they the same St John?). North Rhodesia turned into Zambia, at which South Rhodesia became plain old Rhodesia before later escaping the name of the nasty old colonialist and becoming Zimbabwe. Cecil Rhodes went to my old college and defaced it with some self-glorifying buildings almost as badly as he messed up what was once Matabeleland, so I don't like him.

So superisis has the quiz chair for Christmas. Use it wisely.

Firstly I'll post my question, then a second question regarding hints.

1. The question is: Which (non 2000th century or later) leader is most wildy debated. I.e. which leader is seen as (depending on your school of history) either:

a) An infallable divine (through heritage) religious leader
--> Just, enlightened: a Good Ruler

b) An unbalanced phsycopath
Spoiler :
(attributed to his "dry" brain )

--> A disatrous ruler

c) A cosmic figure, partaking of divine light
--> innaugurating the last great cycle of revelation

d) An "enlightened" despot, rational & especially aware of environmental problems.

Give me the name of the leader, when/where he ruled, and a little about why he is so diversly interpreted.

As for my second question regarding hints:

2. Should the hint be:

a broad one; telling you in what time period he lived?

a tall one; telling you what country/area he ruled?

Sorry, not Iskander... I guess you need the hint... i'll give you the broad one: He lived at the turn of the last millenium: aka 900-1000s

Nope. He lived too early anyways (turn of the 9th century right?). This guy lived during the 10th/11th century and was a ruler, i.e. no papa. I'll give you till tomorrow then I'll give you another hint (the location).

BTW Gagliaudo: have you read Kafka2's article about Gregorius VII?

Gerard d'Aurillac (aka papa Silvester III)???
Considered a wizard by some peoples, quite saint by others, he had large influence on Holy Roman-Germanic Empire Otto III ("translatio imperii" doctrine).
I know, he isn't so famous, indeed...

Since noone has guess it yet, another hint. HE ruled Egypt (well that territory). C'mon a disputed ruler of Egypt who lived around 900, 1000 AD. Can't be too hard can it?

Anything outside my period of interest is almost always hard :p

Saladin was indeed later - late twelfth century - and everyone liked him!

I think you mean Caliph Hakim bi-Amr Allah, who ruled the Fatimid territories between 996 and 1021. He built libraries and mosques and mingled with the people to stay in touch, rather like George III - but also like George III he was a bit mad and did things like forbid working during the day or sleeping and night, and outlawed the making of women's shoes. He disappeared under mysterious circumstances during a trip to the Muqattam Hills, when he was only 36, and some claimd he had become a god and ascended; others claimed that in his insanity he had ordered this belief to be spread.

Correct! Caliph Al Hakim Bi'Amr Allah is the right guy. One undisputed cool thing he did though (besides forbidding the denizens of Cairo to eat seaweed) was his rebuilt mosque of Cairo: quite splendid.

Since Plotinus had the floor before me, he cannot have it again until after two questions, including mine ofcourse (see thread rules), thus I leave the floor open to the first one to post a question.

May I...
City was found on the hills between two rivers in Europe. When Romans conquered the place they give it a name Singidunum. What tribe were founder of the city? And what is the present name of the city if translated on English language?

Should be easy...
