New Diplomacy Game: Civdip XII - Broken Resolutions

I'm not really sure what your point is, Barron.

Are you saying we should stab eachother on the right moment ;) ?

That would be a very Roman approach to this game :D

:yeah: Newsflash! :yeah:

The Turkish garrison in Greece is killed to a man!
The Italian Army retakes Trieste whilst further North the Italian Army is driven from the ski-slopes of Tyrolia!
The Russian Bear hugs the northern Austrian Frontier!
The English Navy fail to bring the British Army to Belgium and a 2nd battle of Waterloo. Driven from the North Sea, where will the British Fleet go? Is the Sun setting on the British Empire? Can God trust the British in the dark? ;)
Many generals and admirals baffled by strange orders...such as the one to the fleet in Norway to do nothing to assist the Grand Fleet when the Franco-German fleet battled in the North Sea!
Another case of odd orders was the order to the General of the Turkish Army to support the Turkish Army in Bulgaria which was at that time attempting to break into Serbia...

Options to retreat = Edinburgh, Heligoland, Skaggean Sea, Norweigan Sea.

New Deadline: 48 hours to get in retreat/disband orders - thus Friday at 11 pm GMT

Note: I will resolve it as soon as all orders in to speed things up :)

P.S Can you please entitle all orders given in using CAPS LOCKs on and putting the name of your country, the turn it is for and also include the word "orders" as it will make my life easier and probably reduce the chance of an error being made.

I would like to question the results given above. My understanding of the rules indicate support is not cut by an attack from the space to which the support is given.

Austria had a supported attack on Bulgaria sc by the fleet in Greece, supported by Serbia. I do not see any attack on Serbia other than the Bulgarian army, which can not cut support on an attack on itself. Otherwise a force of one can stand off a force of two.

If this is not persuasive, why couldn't a dislodged fleet greece retreat to Albania?

Are the people I play this game with using different rules than this game? You can't say Realpolitic suspends the AvalonHill/Hasbro rules if Realpolitic is wrong.

I thought the reason for the standoff there was the support from Constantinople, making Bulgaria a 2 on 2.

I do have one question though: It says that a unit ordered to move can only be supported by a support order that matches the move that the unit is trying to make. Wouldn't that render the support from Constantinople invalid?

The support from Constantinople for the army in Bulgaria to hold (or support some other move, what is required that Bulgaria not move itself) is not valid if the army in Bulgaria moves.

I have played this game for a long time, starting in the 1960s, I have never before seen a support order for a holding unit apply to a unit that moves. A unit can of course be supported to move (in this case to Serbia) but only by a unit that could itself move to the space it is trying to move to. Constantinople can't move to Serbia, Bulgaria attacks Serbia with strength one, and after being stood off then occupies Bulgaria with strength one as the support from Constantinople is not allowed if Bulgaria attempts to move. The Greek Fleet should be in Bulgaria south coast, and the Turkish army that was in Bulgaria has no retreat and so is destroyed.

I hadn't even noticed this, but I did note realpolitik was clearly erring as retreat to Albania should be allowed. When I put the same set of moves through my own realpolitik, the Greek fleet is allowed retreat; but oddly the English fleet in the North Sea is instantly destroyed, even though it can very clearly retreat to several spaces that haven't been occupied this turn, or even ever.

Kitten of Chaos:

Please do use realpolitik. It does not make mistakes (never seen any in over 200 turns).

We really should get things right, before moving on.

I've found the problem: Bulgaria is split south/east coast and I had the Greek fleet attack arrow on the east coast so it wouldn't work that way.

Corrected map: see below

24 hours from now to get in new retreats...

No, I'll continue to do it all using a crayon as before.

How else do you think I was producing those images and realpolik files?

Your realpolik had the Austrian fleet retreating? How did you manage that?

Assuming (wrongly) the attack on Bulgaria failed, and that the Austrian fleet was dislodged, I wanted to show that it could in fact retreat to Albania.

I will be in absentia from 4:00 Thursday to 3:00 Sunday EST. I will probably have (limited) internet access, but I'm submitting tenuous moves just in case. Send e-mails to my normal address, but if you do not receive a response, its not because I'm snubbing you, its because I'm in the Baltimore/Washington area.

I'm just glad to have four centres, instead of three...

I have a thought as to why it destroyed the fleet in Greece the first time. You had it processed with an illegal move, so it would be treated as an NMR for the Greek fleet, which, under the rules, would be disbsanded.

:yeah: !Newsflash! :yeah:

The Austrian Army in Trieste falls back to the relative safety of Budapest!
The British Fleet quietly sneaks into the Skaggean Sea opening up new offensive options much!
The Italian Troops ski into Piedmont so ending an eventful holiday disrupted by sausage eating, opera listening Germans :D

The British diplomatic corps will take a brief holiday (roughly 36 hours) and will be too drunk to respond to any contact from other embassies. Not that anyone gives a damn about the British in this one anyway - that's part of why we decided to go drinking! Cheerio - Magnus :king:
