New DLC: Polynesia

It isn't. >:[

Screwed up my image attachment, take a look at my previous post :)

But yea you're right it doesn't seem to be on Steam....wierd that they would have that in the game screen when you can't purchase yet, the "DLC available" wasn't there an hour ago in my game screen ....

I can confirm that i played until 2 hours ago and it wasn't there.

Them not making India have their own unique style & music set should give you a clear idea that they won't be making new music sets and art styles. I mean come on, India. I cringe every time I see Indian cities in civs, both IV and V...

I think Russians would also argue that they have a unique enough architectural tradition that they should get their own designs. And Babylon, being old than most of the others, should arguably have a different style. You know, if we are going to make a wish list.

I feel like DLC's are replacing the traditional expansion pack. You're just going to see patches and small DLC's adding up into what would have been bulk expansion releases. They might eventually lump the DLC's into discounted bundle packs but that's about as far as it will likely go.

This suits me just fine. Instead of having to wait a year for everything to be bundled in a new box to buy, they release it as they develop it. I like checking out new things ASAP anyway.

To be honest, I am sure there will be both traditional expansions and DLCs. DLCs are wonderful for developers because they allow for a constant cash flow and generally can be released with far less in house/beta testing than a full expansion. Full expansions would be used to include new engine and gameplay elements. This would be things like adding a religion, espionage, or corporate system to the game.

Why is Polynesia considered Asian for this DLC? They should have Native American art and music imo, especially since Indian and Chinese music has no place whatsoever in Polynesia, and the Polynesians mostly originated in Hawaii (or the legendary Hawaiiki if you're Maori).

It's been proven that Polynesians originally came from Asia and spread out, however I do agree with you that the Native American theme would be better

Polynesians definitely did not originate in Hawaii. They traveled east across the Pacific Ocean from an origin somewhere in East Asia.

No one knows about the Moai; People have suggested +1 hammer to neighboring ocean tiles, and quite a few other things.

In the same way, noone knows about the Maori. Not even what unit it replaces.

I think you're using "no one" very loosely there :p

BTW, I believe Polynesian expansion started in southeast Asia, then went Taiwan, Indonesia, and eastward. So they have an Asian origin (even if the peoples living in those regions have replaced the original Polynesians).

I believe the settling of Hawaii happened somewhere between most Polynesian islands and New Zealand. The mythical 'Hawai'iki' is the name the Maori give to their ancient homeland to the northwest.

Don't get Polynesia confused with Micronesia (Around Palau and Fed. States of Micronesia) and Melanesia (New Guinea & Solomon Islands etc.)

I'm not. I'm talking about the original Pacific expansion of these peoples (i.e., the language group). Their origin was southeast Asia.

Aah, OK. Yes, it was.

Imagine if in the scenario, each civ had it's own (New) leaderhead!
