In this new Civ IV, there are many new things. Some things have been taken away, many things added. What new thing do love about the game? What new thing do you hate about the game?

For me, I love the new control over religion and government.
I hate that the game time is shorter. I would love a game that lasted days. I'll just have to create my own in the editor they give us.

I will defer answering this till I have the disk loaded on my system and can see how they actually work.

Well, this is sort of all we can do until it comes out in winter, or something like 4-5 months. The only other thing we got to look forward to before it comes out is when they start the main, big, and very important testing of the game to work out any bugs they can find. It is suppose to take place sometime durring the summer. But I have just one question for you, what else could we be possibly talking about? We have pretty much beat CivIII to death, unless you want to talk about making new scenarios.

Love:
1.You only have to learn one tech to get tech that have diffrent ways leading to it. (Robotics without Alphabet here i come!)
2.Religion type freedom of religion. (everyone try to convert your cities and you get bonuses!)
3.Emancipation/outlawing slavery (Makes everyone else who hasnt done it/not it have harder life!)
4.Promotions

Hate:
1.Not being out.
2.Not being out.
3.Not being out.

In reply to the hate about a shorter game...I thought that in the posts they mentioned 3 levels of play, one short one, that could take a few hours, or just one sitting, and then two that would progressively get longer, so that the ability to play a game for weeks on end would still be there, but i might be wrong, but if i'm right then your hate is out the window :-)

- Ability to build tanks without inventing the wheel (That is, the flexible tech tree.)
- Return of spy units
- RTSish feel

- Just about everything else

...although I still haven't decided whether I like the wild animals and artillery system.

Well, when the test starts, most here won't even know it (unless they change the way they've done things in the past).

Well, (I know this is heresy) you could try a different game. I just picked up Crown of Glory from www.west-civ.com Those of you who love detail in their TBS empire builders and don't mind focusing on one era (Napoleanic in this case) will be in heaven for a while.

I don't think the system is going to work like that. One big thing is that that doesn't make any sense. Here is what the pre-release info section actually says:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Technology Tree, just like its technologies, is smart and flexible. You will have the ability to research different things, but they will lead to the same level of technologies. It will offer unique paths to guide your empire along. There are no longer static eras, as in Civ III’s case.
There are different ways to discover technologies, like the already mentioned Great People, and probably by the Tech-Tree’s flexibility itself
You will also be allowed to skip whole branches of the Tech-Tree if you wish.
Moving up the Tech Tree will also unlock Civics options like Freedom of Speech and Slavery, which will have far-reaching consequences for your entire domain.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Read between the lines. What I think what they were trying to express is that you can skip SOME traits that you don't want that aren't necessary (If you remember in CivIII, they had those little circle with a line through it in the corner of boxes with technologies in them that meant you didn’t have to research? Example, Democracy was one of them, and there was the whole branch in the middle ages that led researched cannon, the Military Academy, and Cavalry (The only reason we don’t notice it is because everyone usually researched it to get better units)). If you look closely at the info we are pre-release info section, you will see that technologies "require" other technologies, and "lead" to others.
Example:
Agriculture or Hunting>Animal Taming>Horseback Riding (Stop, Horseback Riding doesn't lead to anything else, as we know now of right now)

So at least for some, this is good news. But the bad news is that the Technology Tree will still be very close to what it was in CivIII with only a few changes. I remember someone saying that CivIV was “1/3 old stuff, 1/3 changed stuff, and 1/3 new stuff” and that is why these games stay so popular over the years.

Too bad those numbers don't match the new threads.
That might make them otherwise popular.
It's more like 1/1 old.

@Sickman-Freedom of choice!

No one has a gun to your head, pick a different thread & take your snotty comments with you.

I still dislike the religious motif and I'm not certain yet about the combat system or the idea of multiple leaders. In other words, I have my doubts. I'll just have to see how it plays out--though I'll have to upgrade the computer it's on hugely before I even try.

Like:
2 Leaders per most of the Civs
Civics, Religion
The fact of not sticking to the most powerful unit

Dislike:
No leaders

I like the new combat system in theroy but i am not sure how it will transfer into the game so i will have to wait till i play the game

Dont think i have anything bad to say about it, nothing sounds like its going to suck. Cant say i think im going to love it tho as iv not played it yet. Cant imagine i will end up hating it tho.

Likes: New Promotions; Trade along rivers and lakes; 3D "alive" world; Editing abilities
Dislikes: Limited map sizes; "square" looking terrain; No Zulus (Mali will definately do, however)

Love: news about the game and my anticipation of it.
Hate: not having it yet -- anyone have a time machine for rent?

It will be different than C3. I will make the necessary adjustments. If it is as bad as Rise of Nations is (impossible, I hope), I will be severly disappointed.

This poll is 5-7 months premature. Give us 1 or 2 months time to PLAY the game. gpm jumped the gun.
