Intrigued by: Everything else
Great answer!
So here is my real answer:
Intrigued by everything!

I will be getting the game as soon as possible -- although hopefully I will have a new Wintel to actually play it on by then!

well, we can't say we love or hate features because we haven't even put our hands on it. Only then, and I think only after playing multiple times, can we really judge what we like or dislike about Civ4. For now, it's guessing and scrutinising superficial issues like graphics etc.

Based on the info provided, my list would be:

dislike: multiunits, unit based operations such a missionaries, political correctness
fears: religion might be too shallow, resource balancing

likes: unit promotions, some unfun issues removed
hopes: a really smart AI that learns to adapt to your playing style to put up a real challenge (I think actually this is the core of the game and if the AI is good, the game will be a great one)

I love all of the ideas except the whole "everyone gets the resource!" part. What's the point? Dont have iron? Longbowmen. Don't have saltpeter? Eh, good luck, but get some fast before your enemies get nationalism.

It seems stupid to me.

In reply to what mdm just said, I am pretty sure that saltpeter has been discontinued as a rescource.

Anyways, I just want to say, when the game does come out, and after you have played it, that you come back to this thread and see if your hates and likes are still the same as you predicted now.

Please continue posting your likes and hates.

I have to say the idea of getting rid of Corruption is a great idea, especially for modern times. I always thought it was a little ridiculous that when you're playing the game in like 1990 AD you will have cities that are unable to build a courthouse for like 80 turns/years just because it is too far away from the capital city. That was one of the biggest problems I had with civ3.

Love:
1.You only have to learn one tech to get tech that have diffrent ways leading to it. (Robotics without Alphabet here i come!)
2.Religion type freedom of religion. (everyone try to convert your cities and you get bonuses!)
3.Emancipation/outlawing slavery (Makes everyone else who hasnt done it/not it have harder life!)
4.Promotions

Hate:
1.Not being out.
2.Not being out.
3.Not being out.
thats odd, how can ppl with no concept of writen languig invent robotics or anything much for that much:P

Loves:

-3D graphics (About time!)

-Improved diplomacy

-More resources / resource based management

-Custom Politica/Economical/Labour/Religiousl system!

Hates:

-Removal of curroption & adding to maintence costs (Is that realistic?! NO - this is a simple bandage method, clearly it doesn't solve the root of the problem, just the branch of the tree)

-No [Civ macro-management (CTP&CTP2 had this system where you can allocate how much people: work, recieve rations, general salary range.

-No multiple playing layers (CTP1&ctp2 had it, basically this means you could of built in space or sea)

-Not many non-combat untis (CTP1&ctp2 had many many of these units and some where even specific to the goverment you used, thats pretty innovative and kick ass in gameplay)

-Pollution damage is nutered (arghhh, CTP1&ctp2, alpha centari had this managed nicely along with global pollution disasters!! How amazing is that)

Overall:
Overall, I think this game is definetely dumbed down from civ 3, just like civ 3 is dumbed down from civ 2. Arghhhhh

Hate: everything, especially rise of nations feel
Love: the guy who started this thread, just kidding.

Love: Everything

Hate:1 It's not out yet
2 There is'nt 2 leaders for every civ.

:thumbdown
1. Maximum game lenght 400 turns(hopefully modable)
2. No Pollution
3. No Corruption
4. as far we no no immigration(awaiting mod)
5. Probably no true stack combat Like call to power II
6. Cartoony graphics
7. my 1.7 gig 1gig ram computer might just be average system not above average like it is for civ III
8. Smaller map
9. only 80 or so techs
10. no future era
11. no Athiesm
12. religion
13. the spaceship victory I mean come on be more original It's been four games get over it. Have another science victory for gosh sake. [pissed]

:goodjob:
1. the civics system
2. ability to mod the AI
3. overall more modability
4. the globe view
5. ability to zoom in and out
6. food resources tradeable
7. health system and hopefully no more pop caps for city.
8. promotions
9. great people
10. ability to improve water(hopefully there will be a mod allowing a sea settler for the future era of course and the AI will be able to use it by modding the AI)
11. hopefully no more :spear:

2 things. 1: Only CtP has featured future ages. 2: Thats regular leanth if it has the same civ 3 options you can expanded the number of turns like I did WITHOUT modding. I always increased game lengh to 1000 turns.

LOVES:

-The new civics system.
-The new religion system-in spite of its imperfections.
-The amount of editing possible.
-The removal of the stupid MM involved in corruption and pollution.
-Great People.
-New unit promotion system and more focus on combined arms.
-WYSIWYG and zooming.
-Improved resource and tile improvement system.
-Multiplayer 'out of the box' and Single Player AI guided by MP playtesting.
-Leader traits and personalities.

HATES

-The return of Spies as units  .
-The fact I still don't know enough about the game yet!!
-The people who think that the old Pollution and corruption systems from Civ3 were FUN?!?!?!
-The fact that it won't be out for over 4 more months.

Yours,
Aussie_Lurker

I'm saying this one more time. You can increase game length if it's like civ 3 and Bill Claudill himself said that the maps would be SLIGHTLY smaller. That probly means that there decresing ocean squars so there will still be plenty of land.

Love: The whole now look of the game, the fact that they seem to have eliminated the odds of civ3, that they seem to made the game more 'logical' or 'scientific correct', or just the new government/civic - , science, great people - systems.

What I dislike: the new micromanagment-increasing systems, such as espionage or missionism.... :) This is the only big MINUS! but we have very few info on this, so I still hope for a better system.

In this new Civ IV, there are many new things. Some things have been taken away, many things added. What new thing do love about the game? What new thing do you hate about the game?

For me, I love the new control over religion and government.
I hate that the game time is shorter. I would love a game that lasted days. I'll just have to create my own in the editor they give us.

I will see that when playing the game if it ever happen...

By the way, the game will not be shorter.
