Swedish developer Midjiwan has released a really wonderful new game called "Super Tribes," which really feels like Civ extra-extra-lite. The screenshots give a good idea of what you're in for; 4X gameplay, very pretty graphics, 30 turns per game (!), high score chasing. For all that, it's surprisingly deep, and each game feels like a unique experience.
What's nice is that other than Civ Rev and Civ Rev 2 (which is amazing), the only real Civ-likes on the App Store are freemium garbage: free to play, purchase in-game currency with real money, endless gameplay, heavy social aspects. Although this game IS free, the only in-app purchase is $1 to unlock a new civ. That's it; no ads or anything else.
Anyhow, it's no replacement for Civ -- certainly not any desktop Civ -- but it's really wonderful for a mobile experience. I'd expect Civ fans would get a kick out of it.
