ONLY WORKS WITH ENGLISH VERSION OF CIV 4 WARLORDS (BUILD 2.00)

A group of friends wanted to do a reenactment of the second world war and needed an Italian civ so I made one. I understand that an Italian Civ has already been made for Warlords by some veteran modders but found that all out only when I logged in now (a year since my last visit) to share my first ever mod with the community here. The civ I made has the following features:

2 leaders - Mussolini (Imp) and Garibaldi (Cha) No favorite civics yet
Plaza - replaces market (pretty imba unique building, gives 1 free merchant)
Bersaglieri - replace infantry (pretty imba infantrymen, start with commando)

The leaders:

The leaders only have one trait each because I'm still trying to find and justify another one. I basically copied catherine's traits so please don't mind if everything appears sloppy.

Everything is unskinned and Mussolini uses the same skin as Churchill; I hope no one is offended, the choice was made purely because I needed someone with an industrial-age look. I hope I won't be criticized for that. I fully understand the idelogical disparity between the two. I'm not much of an artist so everything is unskinned. I'm currently working out a civ icon, as well as replacing the leaderheads with static portraits.

Sprites and Sounds:

I'd really appreciate it if someone could point out a good 3d model that I could use for the Bersaglieri as well as an Italian voice set (I don't speak it unfortunately). The same goes for the plaza.

That's pretty much all there is to the 'mod', if it could be called that. I'm hoping your feedback and suggestions will make it a much more fun civ to play. I will be testing it on mp for the first time tomorrow and hope to draw results from that as well.

UU:

The choice of commando as a free upgrade for Bersaglieri was very simple to make. I wanted them viewed as rapid attacking infantry. I've never had a unit that went up to combat IV much less an entire stack so I decided to give them commando from the outset.

I would really appreciate it if you could take the time to try out the civ. To do so, please extract the contents of the rar file to the warlords folder. It will replace some files so you might want to look them up and make a copy just in case you want to be done with my version of Italy.

I will try and upload an updated version soon with better pedia descriptions, static leader portraits and a Civ Icon based on the Italian coat of arms. Until then, please bear with me.

Regards,

Muneeb Ahmed

Seems nice. I will have a look.

Hian the Frog.

I had a couple of problems developing the mod further. The texture for the team flag for the Italian Civilization. I built a dds texture that previewed perfectly. When I applied it only a black flag was displayed. Any ideas as to what's wrong?

I also tried to use a separate mod directory as reccommended; but I don't know how to get it to load the modified files from the mod directory and the rest from the old assets folder. How do I do this?

Suggestion instead of Garibaldi as the other leader use Count Cammilo Cavour since he did more for Italy and was a leader.

The best traits for Cavour would be Finacial, Expansive, and Charismatic. Its really up to you which ones to choose.

Finacial - He did wonders for the economy at the time, industrialized the country, and expanded the railroads to an extreme

Expansive - He was always looking to aquire new land which he was very succesfull out.

Charismatic - This trait probably describes him the best seeing that he was very clever and shrewd with his political decisions.

So its up to you on which Traits to give him!

Also for the UU Bersaglieri how bout giving them geurilla 1 & 2 to navigate through the hills of Italy.

*To make statik images for the leader heads you can use a program called DXTBmp it converts BMP and other stuff to DDS*

I think I'll stick with Charismatic and Financial. That agrees with my impression of Cavour. Thanks for the suggestions.

EDIT: As for Guerilla and Bersaglieri: I think I'll just give them -1 to movement cost in hills instead of guerrilla, the reason being that I don't want their first possible promotion to be guerrila 3 which would make them practically unbeatable in hill terrain.

that makes sense, one more thing you might want to update it to the latest version of Warlords

I've just downloaded the patch and will get to work on delivering the updated mod, with nice leader descriptions borrowed from Wikipedia as well as the new and improved Bersaglieri. I would really appreciate it if you could play a couple of games with this civ and tell me how it handles. Have you ever worked with DXTBMP? If so, I'd really appreciate some texture files that I can just put into the mod.

PS: BTW, are you Italian? - MA

-Yes, I used when trying to create my own Italian Civ but Im not an exprienced modder and the turtorial I was following was for CIV4 and i was trying to make it in warlords and I think I messed on some things having tons of errors. Anyway I made 3 DDS images a leader head of Cavour and Mussolini and an Italian Flag but the flag's ration is off becaused I resized it Im not sure if these files will work in the mod or not but give it a try. Here's the turtorial I followed you could check out the Image file part maybe it could help you
