That's pretty convincing. I've agreed with the general suspicion that this was Shaka, but it has still been annoying to see so many people confuse "confirmed" and "strongly hinted at". It's not confirmed even now. But it would be an odd coincidence if this wasn't Shaka and they used that quote for unrelated reasons.
The Zulu are all but confirmed. The only other explanation for the clues we've been given is that Firaxis is purposefully manipulating us in order to surprise us with another civ. I don't think they're doing that.
But that's the point. Confirmed is them saying "Zulu is in!". And nothing less. The picture is a hint, a very strong one, but it's not confirmed! Confirmed is what you can put in the "things we know" thread. You can't put that in because so far, it's all speculation based on one hint.

What's the big fuss with Shaka? He was always my least favorite character to play. I hope they actually make him useful and give him a super unique UA this time around.
That's flat out incorrect. Again, "confirmed" and "strongly hinted at" are not equivalent terms. Where I've been is not jumping to conclusions and insisting my suspicions based on hints are actual facts, that's where.

The shadow screams Zulu so much its difficult to come up with an alternative, especially one not already in the game. However, there are some problems with the Shaka theory. Rather large ones frankly.
1) Notice the grass ? To a trained eye its quite clear what type of grass that is, especially one with a backround in invasive species. This is Spanish reed (Arundo donaxbs) which is NOT native to the Zululand and in fact was not present on the continent until after Shakas death!
2) The soil. Now while it would be difficult to tell much from most game images, the fatal giveaway here is the discoloration and the differences in color in the soil. This is naturally occurring for because of oxidization. Which brings us to the problem. The off-white is accurate. The oxidized soil ? Doesn't happen in Zululand.
This means one of two things. The developers have once again set us down a false Zulu trail, or they have made an incredible oversight in selection of soil and fauna. While I don't like being tricked, I do hope its the former. If its the latter, this will have a huge impact on sales. They can't make such mistakes with soil and fauna and not expect the respective communities to be outraged.
As the developers of "Plants vs Zombies" learned, you MUST maintain agrobiological integrity.
The meaning of something being "confirmed" is an either/or understanding. There is no grey area or level of "confirmedness"--it either is, or it isn't. It's like people who are fond of dumb phrases like "really unique" or "kind of broken"; logically, they don't make sense. Something is either unique, or it isn't; broken, or not; confirmed or not.
Yes, there is a good likelihood that Shaka is the big reveal--but that isn't confirmation.

Right. The shadow was a hint, nothing more. The quotation, now that it's been put in context for us, is a very convincing hint. So much so that, if this turns out not to be Shaka, I'll be extremely surprised.
None of this says that it has been confirmed. As of the time I'm writing this post, they have not confirmed it. To say they have is incorrect. To say the shadow alone confirmed it is ridiculous. (Many people pointed out it could have been a Native American leader. I myself said it could have been Cunhambebe, though I doubted it actually was, as I said at the time.) Just because a lot of people believe it, and in this case will probably be vindicated in that belief when confirmation does come, does not mean confirmation has come already.

Astute observation! I do believe; however, that any oversight on the soil/grass is purely accidental. Remember they had Roman legions at the Temple of Artemis picture, so it is not out of the realm of possibility that they just used the lay person's connotation of South African/Zulu grassland.
And side note you people must have better things to argue over than the definition of confirmed. What profit is there to say that something is very likely isnt quite confirmed? So its very likely that the shadow is Zulu. What harm is there to me if I treat this as confirmation and it turns out its not Zulu or Shaka?

Umm... I just said Temple of Artemis instead of Parthenon intentionally to show how easy it is for people to mistake one thing for another... yeah... thats it... good call out lol
