New Leader Hint! (Looks like Shaka)

Anyways, happy to hear that there will most likely be at least one African civ =) maybe I'll give it a shot with BNW and start a game with all the warmongers to see how it will develop =)

Rush for construction and spam composite bowman. :mischief:

My prediction: It won't. Everyone will be so busy trying to kill each other they will completely forget their infrastructure.

I agree. I tried to cook up the hardest immortal
Game possible (large Pangea as India, all the most expansionist/aggressive civs and Babylon).

All the warmonger caused me trouble at first but then I outeched them and they became actually
Useful for the experience and gold from peace each time I destroyed their attack forces.

I ended up losing to Babylon in the end, who quietly teched its way to te spaceship on the other side of the map.

So Assyria is the one who scares me now.Zulu and the likes I can handle if I survive turn 100.

Really happy to see Shaka back by the way.

I also agree that the Moors/Berbers/whatever you want to call them are one of the most overlooked civ candidates. To be honest, I might even go as far as to argue they deserve a place in a future, vanilla version of Civ.

However, I think their chances of getting in are almost nil, due to the fact that in every iteration of Civ they've always been lumped with the Arabs (you can look at the city-list to see that), which is rather sad.

That's probably because the Moors were part of the arabic Caliphate for a couple of centuries... And some of them were actually Arab.

It looks like Shaka to me.

Hope we'll get a lot more info tomorrow - and I especially hope that the Civ confirmed on Friday isn't going to be the Zulu, since it seems likely we'll get confirmation of that tomorrow now.

Spear looks African but his head-dress looks Native American to me.

The only way this should be confirmed is a caption saying "when the walls fell". I won't accept any other form of confirmation.

I don't know, a shadow looking exactly like a silhouette of a famous picture of Shaka seems like pretty decent confirmation to me.

while I do accept it probably is Shaka, part of me want it to be someone else just for funs

That would be the biggest troll from Firaxis. I considered it might be someone else and Chaka Firaxis could be doing just that, but it just doesn't fit anyone else.

I'm looking forward to trying him out. I'll be interested in how he's been interpreted and if he somehow incorporates a new game mechanic. And, of course, there's still the very small chance he represents South Africa and not the Zulu.

You're still thinking about that too? I am also. It would be hilarious if it was South Africa led by Shaka with Impi and Boers and a tourism bonus for camps and gold for mines as the UA.

Saw this somewhere else, but the rather awkward quote "because of him, war" refers to a Zulu greeting, "Ngathi impi" which translates as "because of us, war." This should remove the .000001% doubt that it's Shaka

That's a weird way to say hello. Do you have a source for that? I was trying to google it yesterday and couldn't find anything.

I think I found it:

Shaka Zulu (1787 - 1828)
The Chief who made the Zulus supreme
At the beginning of each winter the all-conquering Zulu regiments would gather in their ancestral lands to pledge themselves to new conquests with the salute, 'Ngathi impi', translated meaning 'because of us, war!'

The man who ruled over the Zulus at this time of their greatest glories, who had led their growth from a small tribal clan into the dominant power on the coast of south-east Africa, was called Shaka.

That's pretty convincing. I've agreed with the general suspicion that this was Shaka, but it has still been annoying to see so many people confuse "confirmed" and "strongly hinted at". It's not confirmed even now. But it would be an odd coincidence if this wasn't Shaka and they used that quote for unrelated reasons.

The picture was enough to confirm for me.
The quote pretty much cemented it.
The translation of the quote Confirms it for me.
