New Patch

Thanks for getting the patch to us.

But its breaks the Steam Overlay.

If I press shift tab now the Steam overlay comes up but the Civ V mouse is still in-place and won't actually click any items.

Also since I play in 1920x1200 (a 16:10 screen ratio) since i prefer that ratio I get black bars down the side of course but when the overlay comes on they go grey but now when the overlay goes off they stay grey.

And finally after choosing to show the overlay I can't cmd-tab out of the game. Before I could cmd-tab to go check something on says Safari then cmd tab back in to carry on. Not any more as when i try and come back the whole screen stays black, the game is running in the background and I can blindly click things but can't tell what the hell I'm doing.

ATI Radeon HD 5759 1GB

Worked fine pre-patch post patch boinked it

Ok also for your info the cmd-tabbing affects the game even without doing the overlay first but only if the tabbing causes you to move space.

Also I'm on 10.7.4.

It works OK for me .. although since I have zero achievements and no friends , it doesn't do much for me! Cmd-Tab behaves as I would expect, too.

Ok, I've reproduced both of those issues.

I'm going to guess that while you're playing Civ V in 1920x1200, your desktop resolution is higher. I can get the selecting Civ V in the background while the overlay is up, but not consistently. I can also get the not being able to select things, but only if the desktop resolution is higher than the Civ V resolution. It looks like the cursor is actually offset from where it appears.

I've also reproduced the black screen when Cmd+Tabbing back into Civ V from a different desktop. However, a workaround for it is to press Ctrl+Up Arrow to show all the applications and selecting the Civ V window.

Good, at least it just not me. I played at a different resolution pre patch no issue, maybe you can pass on the info to your engineers. Btw ctrl up didn't work, probably because I have a different setup for expose/spaces/mission cont. to you but yeah I was able to do something similar to work around the cmd-tab issue.

Thanks

Yay for the patch! I've noticed a change in video modes too. Before we could choose from Windows, Fullscreen, or Windowed Fullscreen in a dropdown. Now there's just a checkbox for Fullscreen. I think the Fullscreen mode now works more like how Windowed Fullscreen used to work; in particular when I Cmd-Tab out of Civ V it doesn't hide the game but just puts it in the background, letting me choose other apps on top of it. Only my second monitor doesn't get restored fully correctly. It's not really bad, I'm fine with it, particularly since it seems faster to switch between apps in the new system. But it is different.

Steam Overlay works great for me.

This is all on a 2011 iMac with a 6970M graphics card and 2 gigs of video RAM. Running at native 2560x1440 resolution in the game.

I just installed the patch through Steam after finishing my latest game last night. I went to play a new game today and was given the option of full screen or windowed mode, which is new (and nice to have). However, when I select full screen (as that is what I always use), the screen goes black and I can do nothing but reboot my computer! The windowed mode works, although it's too small to see everything (it doesn't expand to cover the game) and thus unplayable too.

This is a royal pain in the a**e. There is nothing more frustrating when a patch breaks a working game, and even more so when it seems I am the only one so far. I am using a MacBook Air (new model), as I work on this too. But it has always played the game fine until now.

Any advice? I am a bit lost at to what to do, as I can get no response from the computer when this happens :(

Can you change the resolution in window mode through the options screen?

The windowed mode doesn't resize the game to fit the small window (although the intro does fit), and I cannot make the window any bigger. The means I can change resolution etc, but I cannot click apply. It is like looking at the full screen game through a small square tube :crazyeye:

Submit a support ticket on Aspyr's support site, if you haven't already. I selected window-mode and it runs perfectly fine - as before. I'm on a 24-inch, early 2009 iMac w/ a ATI Radeon HD 4850 and 8GB RAM - running the most recent update of Lion.

Thanks. I have put in a ticket, so just waiting to hear something. I imagine it works fine on most other machines, as I have not seen anyone else with this issue.

I do have a PhD to write, so I should probably be thankful that it might now be finished a bit earlier! :goodjob: Now that I have over 450 hours on this game (not including offline time) it might be a good time to slow it down

I feel like i'm going crazy, but I have the new Retina display MacBook Pro and since the patch everything is all jagged and fuzzy. The game looked great before. I thought this patch took advantage of the Retina display? Or do I have my resolution settings mixed up?

 I clocked up nearly 500 hours while "writing my thesis". Keep at it, a bit at a time. You'll get there.

Thumbs down for the new patch. I used to be apply to play it at the full resolution but now it is some cropped version. Please bring back the non HiDPI versions at 2880-by-1800 for the Macbook Prop retina. I am vacation this week and I was looking forward to playing the game and now I wished I had not installed the new patch...very frustrated.

The only major issue I have is that now the fullscreen mode respects hot corners where it didn't before. I don't know if that's a feature-not-bug, but it makes life difficult when you're used to throwing the mouse to the edge of the screen to scroll the map around.
