New pitboss

On vacation until the 6th or so. Not expecting any play interruptions, taking the laptop.

The system does not allow 2 people at the same time, does it?

When I first tried to enter the game complained about Sinimusta firewall... I thought I was in the wrong game! But a few minutes later I could get in without trouble and I realized that Sinimusta had played minutes before me...

Anyway, made a double turn! A brand new turn is available!

It used to, until gamespy died. Now you have to mod your hosts file to point to our game host computer instead of the missing gamespy.com. Several of us have done that, we had at least 3 people in at once last night.

Modify instructions (windows)
In start menu search or Run box (Winkey+R) paste
Code:
%windir%\notepad %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
and hit enter/ok.

Notepad will open and launch the correct file.
Paste on any blank line
Code:
82.116.84.39 civ4bts.natneg1.gamespy.com
82.116.84.39 civ4bts.natneg2.gamespy.com
82.116.84.39 civ4bts.natneg3.gamespy.com
82.116.84.39 civ4bts.available.gamespy.com

Save and close.

Sorry guys, I forgot I am in the game and went out to do some stuff and I blocked someone. I am sorry, I am out of the game now.

The replacement of the NATNEG servers with a community driven NATNEG server would be the best solution. Unfortunately all users which try to connect to the Pitboss Server has to use the same NATNEG server. Currently, several Civ fans open her own NATNEG server. The best solution for all Civ4 players would be that one server would be accepted by all players.

See this and the two following posts for an other stable NATNEG server:

I posted links to modified executables for the 'server of Zulan'. With this exe you do not need to change your hosts file.

The configuration and administration of a NATNEG server is a new topic for the hoster and some time is needed to find out which server runs stable and fine. I hope that we reach the state where we can say "Everyone uses server X" and the connection issue is gone.

I recommend Zulan's server ;), but currently it's hard to say which server can establish and will become accepted by everyone.
Someone with reputation in the community should try to force one server in a few weeks.

Oi, Sinimusta, you are blocking me.

Look, you can either stay logged in indefinitely or you can refuse to make those compatibility changes, if you do both we have a problem.

Is there a way to order units to only do some actions at the end of the next turn? For example I would like to order all my workers to build a road to somewhere in case I miss the next turn, but if I do catch it I want to build an improvement on another tile instead.

Depends. And I am not sure on what exactly. In my experience it varies from a game to a game. You can check this though. If you have a worker doing something - like building a mine or whatever. Once logged in to the game, you will see if the worker/s are still not done their turn and the game has given you to move other unit - warrior or whatever, then you can use this time to manually give the worker/s other orders before the queued actions for the workers are executed. But if you do notlog in in this turn, they will simply do what they were told by shift-order.

 Figures that the one time I didn't queue everything in advance is the first time I miss a turn. :wallbash:

My Internet connection crashed midturn, and of course ReallyEvilMuffin blocked me from rejoining once it was reastablished.

Yes, please, all players do the fix. It is a matter of 2 minutes and will save you and other players frustration.

I have tried this but Win7 does not like saving the edited file. Is this because I am using the 64bit rather than 32bit version?

Any help much appreciated.

I don't think it's worthwile for me to do the fix... not in this game at least! :p

I didn't understand this post until now. Fair well we hardly knew you.

@FF, I have 64 bit and it worked fine for me. Perhaps a picture of the file could be handy.

Erm, how exactly did the Dutch suddenly die? Did I miss a war?

It must had been a quick war. Congrats to HRE and good game to you, Luthor. I hope you liked the pitboss system and will see you in the next :)
