No, you smelt the ore to produce metal.
I think the argument is Academic Hanny, the website obviously features many grammatical errors. Either through oversight or lack of quality control.
I don't know where they got that bit of information, in their cited works I don't see it, the process of smelting Iron for Chain Mail is not much different then the process of smelting Iron for a Sword. Chain Mail is much more malleable then a sword, so it uses the less processed Wrought Iron (or slag) to make it. Just the technique to make it so thin varies from country to country.

Soo, I was wondering, would you guys be interested in putting a commodity of Cast Iron (pig iron) in that the Iron Forge would make, to give people a reason to make at least 1 forge of each (iron, bronze, ect)? I saw you guys had bullions in the game, but they were never used for anything. What happened with that?
