New symbol for gold

Okay, so let me get this straight, the euro or in Stuporstar's pack, the stack of gold coins, represent the actual gold, while the single gold coins on the world map represent commerce?

I'm confused. I thought I could look at a map, count the coins in each tile and determine that way how much gold a city is generating. But it seems by the way you guys are talking about gold and commerce, they are two totally different things.

Can someone explain to me what the difference between the "commerece" being represented on the map and the actual gold amount collected is?

2 thumbs up, this is THE new gold icon, it might also be good to use as the Financial advisor Button.

I'll try.

Worked tiles on the map produce Commerce. Then, depending on what you set your research/culture sliders to, Commerce gets turned into Gold, Research, and Culture. For instance, let's say you got 20 Commerce off the squares you're working, and you're set to 70% research and 10% culture (leaving 20% for gold). Each turn, you'd gain 14 Research, 4 Gold, and 2 Culture, modified by various city improvements. (Within the city screen, there's a box in the upper left that shows how this breaks down.) So, working a Commerce-heavy tile (Cottages, Lakes, gold mines) will typically benefit your research the most, NOT just give you money, because the research slider is rarely below 50%.

The problem is that the game uses the same icon for both Gold and Commerce; it's not hard-coded that way, the graphics file just has two identical entries, so mods like this (which change one but not the other) are pretty simple for something so essential. It also helps clear up the confusion on some improvements (i.e., do the financial buildings improve Commerce or just Gold?)

I see they used my gold mod in the new patch (the basic idea anyway, not exactly the same graphic). Cool! :goodjob:

just assumed someone else would post the screen, guess not lol
