New terrain features

I think at that tech level it would be much easier if you'd just have a giant shild around the whole moon to hold the air. So you need a building bevore you are able to terraform further than the lunar terrain.

What affect will these have on features (sea grass, kelp, coral and reefs) and resources (fish etc.)?

Do we need an equivalent to nature preserve for sea grass, kelp and coral?

Another question, will the AI understand how to use these optimally? I'd assume so because it is able to use Oil rigs and such, but it would be nice to make sure.
 
Probably not, it does not build any of the new improvements we have at the moment! That is why I want to remove them - beacon, lighthouse and kelp/sea grass harvesters.

That sounds like a very good idea for the moment if the AI is unable to use them. That would also mean that we should NOT make the new improvements Hydro suggested for now.
 
Well Koskling says they should be building them because the work boats just use the standard worker AI but they only improve resources and build routes they never improve features. It may be that the code for features is skipped because base BtS does not have any features in the sea. If that is the case then it could be an easy fix.

I can take a look at that sometime soon and see if it is an easy fix or not.

Doesn't the planetfall mod (SMAC) already have AI code to do these things especially harvesters? Is it possible to just port it over instead of starting from scratch? Those features were from that mod right? Maniac said we could use anything of his and could probably ask for his input. I'm sure it's not that easy, but it might be useful and save you some time.

Tidal Harness on the other hand is under water so it might effect things. I suspect you would need to remove kelp for that. Sea Grass and Coal I am not so sure.

Why would you want to remove those? I think the bean and lighthouse are great!

The beacon and lighthouse are "cheats" since the AI wont build them. However there may be something the dll code designed to speed things up which is actually skipping these. We shall see.
 
So just get open borders or the Civilian equivalent get your boats infront of their coasts and place them where they can :P

So I noticed in the "Mars Now!" mod that they have a terrain improvement called "Create Hill". However I did not see a "Make Flat" or anything so I wondered if it would be possible to add both of those to the game. In addition these would not be possible on normal Workers but to a Bulldozer and Terraformer units. Here are my ideas/requests.

I assume the Lunar ones come after a Planetary shield to hold in the atmosphere (like the one in "Space Balls"), you would not want to mess with gravity.

So just get open borders or the Civilian equivalent get your boats infront of their coasts and place them where they can :P

Your workers and work boats can't build in other nation's territory, except routes.

Or more likely magnetic shielding of the whole moon/planet. I hope to start working out details of the later TH and Galactic Era after V28 is released and now that Vokarya says he's leaving.

We can also pick apart some of MrAzure's Galactic Era ideas that he never added to the tech tree. All his stuff should be in the threads he made.

That is what I intend to do soon, and turn that into some new tech ideas. I wish Vokarya would stay long enough to help with prereqs for that, but if not I can do it myself.
