New to site, help!

Yes. But I still need to understand why you saw red in WOTM20!
Seems that kcd_swede saw it too ... I will look in the settings screen when I try to finish this off tonight, see if the red text is there ... I am pretty sure I saw it for WOTM 20, but I could always be misrecollecting ... :crazyeye:

I've just loaded WOTM 20 to check and there's no HOF warning in it. It all looks fine. So I dunno what you guys have been seeing... :crazyeye:

The one I saw in WOTM20 was a warning in the settings screen "Not valid for HOF", not a text warning in the game screen. As instructed, I ignored that warning and played. Seems to have worked since my game was accepted AFAIK. Mostly I was just nervous since this was my first WOTM after my first installation of Warlords, and wasn't sure I did the .dLL file thing right. But after pm with admin felt confident that the settings warning was just a quirk.

Interesting. Which save were you using? I was playing contender.

FYI:
  • The not valid for GOTM/HOF dialog that comes up just before the game loads is player specific - it'll come up if you don't have sufficient permissions for the HOF mod to record all your session data properly.
  • The not valid for HOF message that you can see in-game is game-start-file specific. It is there if anything in the game settings make the game invalid for HOF - and as Alan has pointed out all GOTMs are invalid for HOF because they are built with worldbuilder so would by default display that warning. Because that warning confuses a lot of people, We normally do something to the GOTM start files to suppress that message but the action we need to take is quite fiddly and easy to get wrong, which is why the message sometimes slips through.

From your description it sounds like it's the 2nd message we're talking about. If you can see it and I can't (in contender), the only explanation I can think of is maybe you're playing something other than contender, and the message-suppression stuff failed in whatever version you're playing?

Unfortunately I'm still playing WOTM 20, so I'm still bound by spoiler stuff and I can't (yet) look at your submission to check. If Alan doesn't get there first I'll look once I've submitted or the submissions deadline has passed.

btw some game rejections aren't notified until after submissions are closed, so I wouldn't deduce too much from the fact that you haven't heard anything about your game.

@kcd_swede: You played the contender save, and your save includes the requisite data to suppress the red warnings about HoF eligibility. So they should not have appeared.

I'll download your submission and fire up Warlords later today to check whether it displays red warnings for me.

Hmmm.... ya know... now that I think about it, I may be telling you of a problem I experienced when testing out my system using WOTM19 save. That one used an older version of the HOF mod so it wasn't such a good choice. My WOTM20 may well be free from the defect mentioned. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. You may deduct 50% from my score.

(Maybe I better see the doctor, I may have a brain tumor or something...)

Chalk one up to the aging brain ... no red text in my WOTM 20 game (almost done now) in the settings panel, so I think you did expunge it Alan.

I did one generic test game, got the HOF and GOTM box, then I probably did a second generic game after the fixes, got the red text re HOF only in game, then I fired up WOTM 20 to start it, which presumably did not have red text. I must have been confusing the red text in the second generic test with red text in the WOTM ... sorry!

You can have 50% of my compensation from CFC ...

I don't think I have permission problems with Vista, but it gives me an unspecified error every time I try to load BTS patch 3.17 in the new computer with Vista.

Anybody had that problem?

Have not had the unspecified error issue.

The permissions issues seem to be a factor for the HOF mod, so if you have not tried using that yet, then you might not have seen the permissions issues ... yet.
