New Unit - Baron Triplane

Until he put a timing mechanism on the machine guns mounted on planes the bullets that didn't pass between the propellar would simply ricochet back at the pilot.

Now wouldn't that be ironic, getting killed by your own bullet. You know you're having a bad day when ... :D

just wondering how this is coming along? Will it be civ independent? This is exactly what I am looking for as a generic bi-plane.

this project was put on hold for the last two weeks as i studied and finished up my final exams and projects at college.

Don't worry. Now that I only have 1 exam to go (i'll be done tommorrow -YES!) I will be able to work on this stuff more.

I feel bad cause I like this plane. I started it, then started a couple other units. Well, this one kind of got pushed back, mainly cause I had to draw it all by scratch, but rest assured that it is about 45% completed at the moment.

I even have some cool sounds for it. (Anyone like Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries? :) ) i have attached it in a zip to water your taste buds. (The music is for the fighting/run animations - i will add gunshots to it later)

Actually I was designing this as just a German triplane
I was planning on making a generic biplane for other civs
They would build the bi-plane and germany would make the triplane. Kind of like how Persians make Immortals instead of Swordsmen.

Good luck on your exam :)

Its a bummer about so many civ specific units. When I look for units to add, I think of either the most commonly distinquished or the most powerful. When I think of WW1 planes, the germans and their 3 wings pop into my head first. If adding the civ spot isnt too much work, I doubt that I'd be the only appreciative one :D

Thanks

I can add the civ color spot somewhere, maybe around the cockpit, or on the tail

If you want, you can make the baron triplane available for all civs. It will work. It's all based on how you set it up in the editor. Just select all Civs when you create the unit.

I'm not worried about the unit attributes, but just the game look so i can see immediately who is coming. Actually for an airplane, it just occurred to me that planes dont need to be identified since you know the civ that owns the city they are based in. But land units need the civ color spot to be easily identified.

I got a new idea for this unit that should speed up the process of creating it... we'll see if it flies. (No pun intended)

I know you all want this one and I apologize that I have kept putting it off again and again. I have found a 3D model (free) online and have brought it into my 3d program. I still need to paint the emblems on it, but here it is so far.

Any further progress on the Triplane?

Awesome, I wish there was a way to only allow the creation of 1 unit, like so you can only build this unit 1 time but you could give it some killer stats but once it gets killed, it's gone. Or is there a way to do this?

yes i am still working on it.
It is taking so long because my first design the pallettes didnt work right. now i am trying to get the textures onto the 3d model. Once I get that it will be easy-go from there.

OK. I have a lot of my other unit/civ projects out of the way now so I can finally fully devote myself to finishing this unit. I appreciate all your patience. I started this back in January. Yikes, it's already September! That was like 8 months ago! I have the support of the THIRD REICH TEAM backing me on this project now, and I promise it will be ready soon.

Despite my earlier comments on another thread about anticipation, I can't wait!!!

Keep up the good work pesoloco!!

P.S. Yes I am following you. :D

Here is a new preview:

It's blurry in some spots, but that's just because it's a JPEG.
The real unit is nice and clear.

I still need to add some skin colors to the propellers, engine, etc.
How does it look so far?
