New Unit: Hobbit

Hey COAtlantis, This is great, thanks very much. Can i leave it to you to come up with sounds for all my units. I'm really looking for some female warrior sounds.

Sure mate, just name em, and Ill whip them together! :)

Your forgeting that the feet needed to look 'normal sized', when you 'shrink' someone on screen to make them look short, everything else shrinks too, So His feet would be like Child sized, So the prosthetic feet were to 're-normalized' the feet.

I have a friend who is a midget, He still wears size 8 1/2 shoes, but he's 3'9" tall. this is normal, Most of my friends who are 5'7"-5'11" wear size 8-10. Do the math, shrink my 5'9" friend with size 9 1/2 shoe to 3'9" his shoe size would appear to be size 6 1/4... Too small...

Off topic, but I've written it now... and I'm not going back...

This is (IMHO) the worst unit I created.

I believe he was working on a kender from Dragonlance. He put a preview in my mods thread on page 9 I believe. THe link is in my sig. I hope someone begins making a few more hobbit units or that Lord of the Mods is going to have to resize units.

Bah! I hate this unit. I don't know why it keeps coming back to haunt me. It was one of the very first units I ever did. It stinks. Maybe I should have a mod delete it.

 It's funny. Like that song White Christmas that some guy sang and had to sing it everywhere because everyone wanted to hear it and he thought it was the worst song he ever wrote or sang!
Sorry Kindred, but your unit is pretty popular if for no other reason than being the only real "Halfling" unit so far. Maybe that Kender will bury this ugly.

It's not that bad, really, animation is good. I still use him, I and will have to use him even after you release that kender. Kenders are too thin to be warhammer halflings and have that girlish haircut ;)

I was going to use this unit as a hin scout in my mod. I like the victory. You know what they say though. A true artist is never satisfied by his work and will always try to surpass himself.

A problem I'm dealing with now that I realized my art program is outdated, I can't do a lot of things I want in my mod to till I replace it. It would be a pain to have to request simple things that are within my own skills to be done so I could flavor up my mod.

So War Hammer halflings are all tubby like in Tolkien books? There are several variations in D&D. They are as diverse as humans in some cases. Of course most worlds like Krynn (Dragonlance) only mention one specific type. It took me a while to realize that a kender was even a halfling when I first read the books, because I never played Dragonlance games. Only Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, Mystara and Blackmoor games.

halfling is pretty universal term, it refers to all kinds of short guys. warhammer halflings are more like tolkien's, short, fat, with hairy feet. never leaving their holes, smoking and cooking a lot. in warhammer battle they're bit caricatural, with cook hats, cleavers and hot pot catapults...
EDIT: typo

My only complaint is that i couldn't show hairy feet. Otherwise, I'm happy.

Hobbit

Here's the victory animation for the little guy.

Great work (I couldn't do it), but he is not stout enough to be considered a hobbit ;)

I have a few Kender that I will be posting shortly (Including a scout). Kender are the same thing as halflings in D&D as far as phisical appearance. The only difference is their behavior. Many of them wear a topknot, but not all. Tolkein and Warhammer halflings (Hobbits) are a bit stouter and have big hairy feet. Personally, I don't care if the dude has big hairy feet. If the LoTM people don't want to use them, I'll just add them myself. :)

I'm with you there Kindred. Are you familiar with Dragonlance? If so could you tell me if the Kender are the only Halflings on Krynn or are there others. Or is that just the way halflings refer to themselves and act on Krynn.

True that halfling is a generic term. The halflings on Mystara usually referred to themselves asa Hin. I think halfling is the term humans gave them. To themselves they aren't half, everyone else is just twice as much. I love to play halflings in my RPG's.

Kender are the only "halflings" on Krynn. There is a rumor of some "evil" kender that have a different name and clan. There are also gully dwarves and other dwarves, they're kinda "half" right? :p

Yuk. Gully Dwarves. Those guys make me ill and laugh at the same time.
