I see your point but I still like my idea a lot just because it could help give that feeling of national identity, that your nation is special no matter which nation it is much the way a nation's uniqe unit helps to identify it.

But uniqueness should not be pre-destined but should develop over time due to the Civ's choices and actions. That is why having any Civ able to build any wonder or mini-wonder is good. That is why having (unfortunately IMHO) pre-destined UUs was not the best implementation for Civ 3, especially UUs that come way in the future when you might not even have access to the required resources!

Civ should limit this "pre-destined" uniqueness as much as possible if not eliminate it altogether.

(Note that I do NOT consider the cultural advantages (such as religious civ, commercial civ, etc) to be "pre-destination" because you have them from the very beginning.)
 
Well most people like uniqe units and I like the idea I proposed. I don't mind if it is pre-destined and I think it would make the game better.
 
two ideas :

Red Cross counts as an hospital in every cities

Marly's machine ( needs ingeneering ) counts as an aqueduc in every cities of the continent
this machine was invented by Renkin Sualem ( a WALLOON :D ) for King Louis XIV. It had to bring water to the gardens of Versaille.
 
Just an idea about small wonders: why not link their names with the civs that build them?

E.g. a 'great cathedral' small wonder could be named:

- 'Notre Dame' for the French
- 'St James' for the English
- 'St Basil' for the Russian
- etc...

It could be applied to many small wonders and maybe to some great wonders also. IMHO it would be a great way to add 'feel' to the various civs and help the players immerse in the game.

Ford's Auto Works
Requires: Replacible Parts
Increases Factory output by 50%, automatically puts a factory in city it's built

Great Earthworks
Requires: Cerimonal Burial
Increases cultural output in city its built, can become tourist attraction

Salt Lake City Temple
Requires: uh...none of the current tech's seem to work. prehaps a new tech in the industrial age for "relgious toleration", to simulate the second great awakining in north america during the early 1800's? I dunno.
2 happy faces in city it's built. increases cultural output in all border cities

Superdome
Requires-10 stadiums, electrisity
free stadium in every city, more commerce

The World Cup
Requires-Nationalism, 10 stadiums (prehaps a new tech, modern sports?)
triggers nationwide "we love the king day"
 
How about if you build the world cup, and your national team loses, instead of nation-wide WLTKD( :king: ), there would be nationwide rioting.. :D
 
No, the english would go and conquer another country that has nothing to do with their loss. (just read the sun and you know what I'm talking about).

Grand brothel (Big apple, chicken ranch, mustang ranch, etc). This small wonder, buildable with cerimonial burial, will make two unhappy citizens in its city happy, but growth will be slowed. It will take half again more ffod to increase city size. This reflects the disease and depravity associated withprostitution. Religeous societies can not build this this wonder, instead they can build the temple of purity and chastity. It has the same benefit and drawback - the followers of the sect don't breed.

On a more serious note, here's a idea about small wonders.

The first civ to build a small wonder should receive an advantage for being first.

Wall Street - The first civ to build wall street would also produce interest in the city in which it is built.

Battlefield Medicine - Any troop fortified for two turns in row is fully healed. Or maybe units heal at twice the normal rate.

Intelligence agency - Spy missions are some percentage cheaper. Or maybe first mission is free.

Heroic Epic - Better chance of producing leader.

Military Academy - Cost of builing an army is some percentage cheaper.

Pentagon - May build an extra army.

Iron Works - no bonus, its too rare.

Apollo program - One contenet citizen in city happy.

SDI Defence - Chance to intercept all missles, aircraft.

Forbidden Palace - Gain one free settler who requires no maintenance.

Good idea, but only for some. I don't think things like battleflield medicine need a bonus, since it's not really a 'first' like the first Apollo Program.

Also,
I think Universal Suffrage should be a small wonder and the first civ who builds it gets a culture bonus for a few turns.

A lot of "firsts" could be small wonders.
 
Anyone else think they should give you the map once u get the apollo program like in civ2 when i first played it pissed me off and yea

I thought may offer different options to play style. For example, I often research straight to Cavalry if I'm playing a militaristic game, so I can kick-@$$ first. If the first-to-build battlefield medicine bonus were available I may consider trying for that first. Also, I usually trade (or get tribute) to get espionage, maybe I'd try to get the bonus first.

I think it would actually balance the game better. It would be difficult to get the great wonders and the 1st bonuses. Civs that just miss out on building a wonder could get a consolation 1st bonus.

Research Satellites in C3C, same effect.

Anyway some ideas for wonders.

Mannhatten Project and Universal Sufferage should be small wonders.

Here is an idea, don't know how it would work out.

Wonder: Independence Hall
Tech: Printing Press/Democracy
Cost:600
Effects: Reduces anarchy time by 1 or 2 turns when a revolution occurs. If under democracy makes 3 unhappy people content.
 
Noone seems to have mentioned the Declaration of Human Rights as a possible new wonder, it could even be a small wonder for every civ to build.
Could require Democracy and turn one unhappy content in every city.

Another forgotten tech could be Logic in Medieval Age and Logistics in Industrial Age.
 
Some of the wonders on this thread I like, but loads of them seem quite Eurocentric and it might be nice to balance that a bit. Off the top of my head:

Angkor Watt
Massive temple/city complex in Cambodia.
(some civ-wide happiness effect?)

Great Zimbabwe
Stone city that really gave the colonialists a headache in trying to claim that Europeans brought civilization to the dark continent.
(produces a free worker every 5 turns?)

Hagia Sophia
Signature church built in Istanbul
(positive effect on your reputation?)

Jihad
We automatically equate jihad with war, but it has a much broader and more nuanced meaning than that, it can be used to describe a social movement for improvement of quality of life, for example. I guess we have a similar concept - the 'war' on crime, for example.
(adds a specialist free of support to every city's population?)

The Temple on the Mount
When three of major world religions regard a building as a holy site, you know it really should be in this game.
(doubles culture, allows 1-turn anarchy for government switch?)

Chinese Voyages
It's more or less accepted fact that the Chinese 'discovered' Australia and it can be argued that they also explored the coasts of Mesoamerica and New Zealand.

The Silk Road
So important! It was the catalyst for lots of change worldwide, including the age of colonization.

Buddhist Enlightenment
Asoka adopted the teachings of Siddharta and applied them to govern his empire, one of the largest in Indian history. A great achievement.
