Nah, they were flipping back to the Chinese, and it was annoying me so much i sulked. I've had no problems with any other resource, just coal. I've tried swearing at it, but that doesn't work, so i'm fresh out of ideas. The problem with being irritated by an inaniment object is there is no rational way to get back at it. Fortunately i'm not a rational person, so i just start another game. That showed them. By the way, i hope the weather is good in our nation's capital cause i have to go there for a 21st.

I've had the settler on a galley problem too, with city flipping and all. It's a real pain in the rear.

I would offer to trade them world maps, if there are any vacant spaces on your coastline. The AI will usually make a beeline to settler any unclaimed land and then you can knock them off.

The star thing someone mentioned...tell me what does it do? God I just remembered in one game that I finally got a GL (yay!) and I used it and there's an elite unit that has a star + the name I gave it.

The asterisk (*) merely tells you which of your Elite units have already generated a Great Leader. Such a unit will not be able to generate another Great Leader until the unit is upgraded, at which point the asterisk should go away.

Darn it. That unit was a Calvary, one of the famous dead-end units. Like with the Swordsman, Longbowman, Ironclads, and some others.

Does you need to have (the defence improvment agenst planes) in the city for the SDI to work?

No they don't. They just need SDI. And maybe a SAM Missle Battery but not sure about that.

Bose - I can appreciate being frustrated and starting a new game, problem is the more I get frustrated the more my new games frustrate me until I turn off the computer and go to bed. Weather's looking good here BTW sunny with a cool breeze, could be anything come tomorrow though.

Here's one i'm sure a lot of you can identify with... my GF hates me spending all my time playing Civ, but i don't know how to minimise the Civ screen when she walks in the room. Please let me in on this so i don't have to continually cop grief from her!

Bose mate just being in front of the computer will cause you grief, I doubt there's any other use for a computer that you'd get away with unless you're working maybe. Perhaps this question is worth a thread, 'I'm not playing Civ honey I'm..."

I don't usually post here when i'm at home, i leave that for when i'm at work. Nothing like getting paid to read threads and have a perv at petracentral.com. I wonder if the bloke i'm charging this time to will think the same? Surely there has to be a short cut to minimise the screen, having to save then quit is slowly cutting away at her desire to keep having sex with me... I don't like calluses.

AFAIK (as far as I know) you can't. If you did minimize it, when you opened a program, the thing would pop up behind the program.

Bose: open another program that fills the screen (word or so), then Alt-Tab to it!

RegentBob: the idea of this thread is that you READ the FAQ thread, then browse here until you give up - then just shoot your Q from the hip. So if you don't find your answer - ask, even if it is the 1000th time! Just don't do thta in the FAQ - we want to keep that one tidy. If something interesting opos up here I will add it to the FAQ, and if you have a question that you think is of general interest and is NOT answered in the FAQ - then post it there!

Probably asked already, but:

What does the Sheild by the City name mean? You know where the star on your capitol is located, I got a sheild on one of my towns in that spot and I have no idea what it means. Are than any other symbols that would appear in that box?

I believe what you are seeing is the Intelligence Agency (small wonder) symbol. If you click on it you should get some kind of espionage option?

The only other possibility I can think of is the Pentagon, but unless I am mistake that does not have a symbol. I think the Embassy/Capitol and Int Agency are the only ones. But I could be wrong there.
