Newbie Questions 2 - post them in THIS thread please!

Bambspeedy: The former palace influencing corruption is just an observation and even if it does it would not be a very big amount, the courthouses and the police stations are the main corruption reducers (along with the FP) . I do not know how to test this to see if the former palace does or does not influence corruption. Any ideas on setting up a test would be helpful. can say that in my most recent game I only had a very few cties in the end that suffered with more than 50% corruption or waste and this was mainly due to the fact I had just captured them. Also thanx for the info on file upload

Using the editor you could generate a map made entirely of bonus grassland. Probably add 25 gold to the road commerce bonus from roads, like Alexman did to get a more detailed %. Don't add any resources or luxuries to the map as this may make it harder to get every city producing the same amount of commerce and to stabilize population. Build x number of cities spaced exactly the same distance apart from each other. Write down the corruption of all cities before and after moving the palace. Get all cities stabilized at size 12. Play Chieftain level and build all the contentness buildings/wonders (temples, JS Bach's, cathedrals, Sistine) so every city has enough contentness to reach size 12. If you do build courthouses, make sure every city has them, so that won't be throwing some numbers off.

In theory, if you move your palace 5 cities away, your old capital should produce the same as the city that now has your new palace was producing before it had the palace.

You need to find your file in the uploads file list of files. I usually click on the date that the files were uploaded as this makes it easier to find, because my file would be the most recent one uploaded (click on the date twice). When you see the name of your file, I right click on it and select 'properties'. In properities it will list a link of the file. Copy the link, go to your post, hit the IMG button and paste the link into the box that comes up.
For some reason my uploaded file isn't appearing in the list, even though it uploaded succesfully. Arrgh... What can I do?

Yeah, I thought so. ;)

willj: it may be renamed
the server is case sensitive (Abc is NOT the same as abc)
it is in the new folder (uploads2)!

MadBomber I have noticed the same thing with multiple palace shifts. I think in part it is due to long lasting WLTKDs in the cities around the palace site. Any time I've done multiple palace shifts it has been huge maps with many opponents and with democracy from its availability. Each time it has been paid for with a GL and the new palace has been plopped down in the centre of lands conquered. The next palace shift has never come less than 80 turns further on in the game. So a factory building for a while then rush, followed by all manner of happy givers, followed by anti corruption as I plan next conquest. I have found that it is possible to get a huge number of cities up to a decent production capacity. Exploit I think not, the amount of enlightened and dilligent leadership required to make this work makes a player that manages it a formidable opponent.
Bamspeedy stop coming the cu** you are not in any position to singlehandedly declare a little known quality of the game an exploit just because you were ignorant of it.

WLTKD is a cumulative corruption reducer, no?

bbaws - I only considered it an exploit if you were getting the corruption benefits of a palace that was not there. Moving the palace around to make cities more productive for awhile is perfectly OK. Calm down.

Go easy yourself. Ignorance is never a position of strength.

Yeah, I knew it should be in the new one.

When you upload a file, look at the index of uploaded files, and make it so that it is in order of when they were last updated (newest at top), your file that you just uploaded will ALWAYS be on the top (unless someone happened to upload something as you were uploading), won't it?

I decided to save my pic as a different name, willj, and I uploaded it. Then I copied and pasted the link of the last file uploaded, and it was not my file. And none of the top files had my name.

Am I missing something here?

I've uploaded two files that are the same thing (just saved with different names): shield2 and willj.

I can't find them, either. What kind of file did you save them as? (.jpg, .bmp, etc.) And did you wait until the 'upload confirmation' window popped up?

Also, at what times did you upload them, so I can look at the upload times to see if perhaps it got renamed. And perhaps a brief description of the pic, so I can verify if I do find the right file or not.

They are .JPG files, yes I did wait till the upload confirmation popped up, and how can I tell when I uploaded them? If you just want a general time I think I uploaded willj at around 16:10 GMT or so, and shield2 sometime earlier today, can't remember when. And they both look like a shield with the letters W and J on them.

I can't find the files, willj. I looked at all the .jpg files that were uploaded today. Hmmm... I wonder if the upload feature is working?

Once you get the upload confirmation, that means they have been uploaded. You didn't happen to put them in a .zip folder, did you?

Conveniently ignored point. Repeated palace moves, done skillfully. vastly improve the quality of your civ.
Well pointed out Madbomber. I've tended to go for core production with efficient transport since logging on to Civ Fanatics.
It's pretty bl**dy clear that what we have in this site is a cadre of posters who CONSIDER themselves to know all about civ. Any argument to their (supposedly considered) opinion is measured by the number of posts count attached to each post. If you don't have enough posts you are stupid. To test this premise I posted, a month or so ago, questions that aren't necessaeily answered by supposed formulae to draw out the elitists who seek to monopolize the site.
It's pretty bl**dy clear who they are. Try a search on ignorance. It's a game. These elitists would like to have everyone playiing the game exactly the same way. So that when PTW comes out they get to exploit the way the have "taught" you to play. These ppl aren't all bad. But they are repeatedly proved ignorant. Perhaps they have heard there is a $1,000,000 prize for winning a PTW tournament?

15? What map size were you playing? Besides, the more workers you have, the sooner you get EVERYTHING done, so the sooner you can join them back into your cities. People still worrying about each and every little gold piece in the industrial-modern era are a little whacked. If saving just a few gold/turn makes the difference between winning or losing you should go down a difficulty level, IMO.

I never play Tiny or Small. I once tried playing GOTM 11 - tiny map, Japan - and I was driving fast at attempting to expand. When I was waiting for the settler to be produced - I met the Americans! Aah!

I play on Standard size maps, always. At least for now. And yes, I know that the more workers the better but I really think - why so many? The Shift-a, shift-i, shift -n, automation stuff took a few turns out of me. I automated one worker and he immedality began on pollution. 15 years must have passed before I stopped his automation and got him to work on it under my command. This was before 1.29, though.

The upload feature seems to be working for other people (I have seen new uploads appear since I last tried uploading the pic), but just not for me. :(

And no, I seriously doubt I put it in a .zip folder. (Unless you can somehow do that by accident. :hmm: )

And BTW, what happens if you upload a file more than once? It will still appear on the top (when it's in order from newest first to oldest last), even if it's renamed, won't it?

And maybe I should have done this before, but how about I attach the pic's file without uploading it, and someone else could download it and try uploading it themselves. Thanks for your help.

Edit: Arrghh... I can't seem to attach files regularly either! :wallbash: The pic is a .JPG file and it's 54.5 KB, so I don't see why it isn't working.

Let me try attaching the image again since I was able to attach an image in another post:

Edit: Yes, I can do it now! Wa-hoo! [dance] Man, that's bigger than I expected.

So then shorten it! It's a burden to those who have slower and dial-up modems - like me, for instance, with SLOOOWWWW AOL...
