Newbie Questions 2 - post them in THIS thread please!

Monarchy has military police and Republic doesn't. So when you lost contentness from the lack of military police (by going to republic) you had alot more unhappy people so the governor had to hire more entertainers. More entertainers = less food = starvation. Usually you want to get a few luxuries and a marketplace in all your most important cities before switching to republic (or bump up the luxury slider).

Investigate city is the only one that never causes war, as far as I know.

Too bad most of my cities only produce one shield per turn and it's not worth waiting 100 turns for it to complete and/or rushing the project.

About espionage: what's the point of stealing the world map when by the time you've got that option you've probably sold it over a million times??

I must be doing something stupid.....
I try to upgrade all my spearman to musketmen with SHIFT-U (I've got about 20 connected to my capital). But only one gets upgraded:(
How is that possible???? I've got the right tech (gunpowder), I've got salpeter, I've got iron if that would be needed for pikemen. I even have Leo to make it cheaper. I planned this strategy from the start of the game, building spearman instead of warroirs and now this...
If I choose a spearman in my capital, it also doesn't work.
Help!!!!!! The AI is destroying me!!!

improvements will NOT be updated - so if you want to check if the AI has rail you need to steal the map...

By that time I can trade WMs for WMs w/ minimal gold so espionage w/ international incident isn't worth it for me...

Why can't there ever be sea pollution?

Thank you!!!!!:goodjob:
In my previous games, I always had Sun Szu. I wasn't aware that this was a requirement. I couldn't find info on it in the game...
It's not too late to win this...

No problem! Burn those civs to the ground! :goodjob:

First of all, you'd be hard-pressed in trying to get your working to swim out and clean it up.... :mischief:

But see, the oil spill at Valdez, Alaska, and all the other infamous oil spills + urban runoff + factories should make sea pollution...

And then you could load workers on a rescue ship and have them do it there...

It would add a touch of realism to the game.

Real newbie question here - I just wanted to know how to get rid of one of my own towns. I've invaded Babylon and now have way too many cities, and wondered if there was a quick way of getting rid of some unwanted ones (other than building nothing but settlers or trading them to other civs). Any advice gratefully received.

danek: right-click it and choos eabandon

or

get it down 8starvation or by building workers or settlers) to size 1 or 2, then build a settler. Make sure there is no excess food the turn the settler gets finished. a pop-up will ask you if you want to disband the city. Click yes

Or if you don't have any patches then you could sell it. Some patch - I do not know what - fixed being able to sell cities b/c too many players were selling cities and leaving units stationed out there so they could take it over again.

Question about MPPs: If you have an MPP w/ A and declare war on B, and you station a unit w/ a zone of control near a city and it fires upon them, does B declare war on you or A? I've had some encounters w/ units that have ZOC and wanted to know.

wait wait wait..... YOU have MPP with A. B has no MPP - then nothing happenes until B attacks a unit of yours outside Bs territory. Then, A declares war on B.

ZOC bombardment counts, too!

Firaxis will probably be more than willing to send you one. If you have a receipt that you bought the game, that is.

With the year limit...

When you reach it what happens. I know it says the game ends but is that what happens? or can you continue with the game. I know theres something you can do to make it longer, can some one please specify this again...Thanks

Ive been playing the game straight now for the last 5 days (thats 120 hours / and Ive been playing for 95 hours)

KL: you can play on - but wihtout score. You can then NOT win an election, launch a spaceship. You cans till conquer the world though.
