Normally I can right click on a square close to a river to ensure that it actually counts as having fresh water. However, for inland lakes this doesn't work. My question is, will the square shown in red have fresh water, and therefore not require an aquaduct?? It is diagonal from a one square lake. Thanks!

This should work w/o aqueduct.

I know about building Military Academy in my most productive city, see that is how I noticed my problem. I built the Heroic epic in my capital (I am trying to max out Washington with culture & He has 4 per turn) well I got the HE built & wanted to build the MA in Kansas City (118 shields per turn) unfortunatly I was not able to do so. The ONLY city that had the option to build the MA was Washington. (the last place I want it) I did not rush buy anything, no forests were cleared, & no option to bulid the MA out of Washington (not even grayed out).
You need to remove it from the build queue in Washington before it will become available for a build choice in any other city. All wonders can only be under construction in a single city.

Hi, nice topic, I'm learning a lot here.

I have some silly questions:

1. On the foreign advisor screen it shows that the chinese and the indians have a military alliance against the persians, but there's no red line (indicating war) between the chinese and the persians, only between indians and persians. Is it a bug or what?

2. I built Theory Evolution for the first time on a game and then the advisor came and told me something like "Sir, we learned Communism from the Egyptians, what should we research now?", but I don't understand what communism and Egyptians have to do with the wonder i built. Any idea? :crazyeye:

3. Is it really possible to win on Deity level?

4. Have you ever won a game without get involved in a single war?

5. Do you really have patience to wait 4/5 minutes turn on huge maps?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have an embassy with the Chinese or the Persians? You won´t see any lines from civs you don´t have embassies with.

That´s a known bug, but since it has no effect on gameplay it hasn´t been fixed. Just ignore the pop-up. :)

3. Is it really possible to win on Deity level?

Yes, but it ain´t easy. Head over to the strategt section for tips on how to beat deity.

4. Have you ever won a game without get involved in a single war?

Personally, no, but I know many who have.

5. Do you really have patience to wait 4/5 minutes turn on huge maps?

No, so I upgraded my computer.

Can you culture flip a city with the forbidden palace? I have not seen this happen. The civilopedia says it "gives the benefit of a second palace" whereas the editor say it just "reduces corruption."

S1m0ne: yes you can. That is why it is often better to build the FP in the core area close to the Palace, then leader-jump the Palace to conquered grounds. I use this if a neighbour has a city with several wonders that is well-situated....

S1m0ne: and if you want proof that it can happen, take a look at this thread

Isn't there an option somewhere to respawn killed-off civs, and to not respawn killed-off civs? I thought there was one but I can't find it.

Yes, it's on one of the screens when you set up a game - not sure which one exactly, but one of the screens has a box near the middle which hageneral option for "default rules" and then a series of checks for individual rules, such as civ-specific abilities, etc. One of those is something like "Permit Civ Respawn" - check that one so it is "off" and you have disabled respawning; click ain to enable it again.

(I hink it's the same screen as has the difficulty level at the bottom)

No, it's not there, nor on the screen with the map options. It's not in Preferences either. Do you need a patch to have the option? (My game is currently unpatched.) I can't find it! And the funny thing is that I thought I remember seeing it somewhere (where you said, I think) but now the option appears to be missing.

I suspect you need a patch - the user guide has a picture of that screen without the option available. I've never played with the unpatched game, so I've always had it available, AFAIK.

There's a pile of other stuff the patches do for you too, I would recommend getting your game patched (more commands for hotkeys and such, for one)

This is what it looks like on 1.29f

So without a patch you have to deal with civs being respawned? Darn, I guess I just wasted an hour or so playing this game going for a conquest victory. I guess I'll get the patch! (The reason I don't have it yet is because I wanted to have a little fun testing exploits that were fixed in the patches.)
EDIT: Oh, and thanks for your replies! :)

willj: give the patch a try - it makes the game a lot better! ;)

the only way to avoid respawns without it is waiting until all land is taken or at least has units wandering around in it.

Yep, I guess I'll give it a try! :) BTW, is there a way to see a detailed list of all the changes in all the patches? I couldn't find any (I know the official website used to have lists), and I mostly just want to know the changes before I start playing. If not that's OK, though.

You might be able to find all the read-me's from the patches, but I don't know where you could find them though.

Started this thread bellow, but was told it belongs here.

Playing my first CivIII game, standard map, 5 other civs, Warlord, and I have a few questions regarding treaties and trade.

In 450 BC I (China) had to smack down the Russians a few times for crossing my border. I asked them to leave, and they said they would, but they then preceded deeper into my territory. They were terminated with extreme prejudice. In 130 BC the Ruskies sued for peace and I granted it to them. I know that the treaty is for 20 turns, but how do i check how many turns are left, it is now 50 ad. Can I even check this or do I need to calculate the turns based on the year?

philippe replied "...go to diplo screen check active for turns left".

Where is the diplo screen? Is it the same as foreign advisor, if so I do not see this option on the screen. The foreign Advisors screen only shows a blue line indicating that a peace treatry is in place, but not how much time remains.

To go to the diplo screen, you'll see that there is a status box thing at the bottom right of the normal/main screen. To the right of that are little buttons. One of the buttons says "D" on it. Click it, and a list will pop up with all the civs that you know of (have contacted or have been contacted before). Click on the civ that you want to talk to, and there you are at the diplomacy screen! :) Also either clicking or double clicking on the civ's leader's head in the foreign advisor will take you to the same place.
