Alessandro:

the more pollution produced, the higher the risk a tile will change. Lower production and city size will help - not a good solution. So the only way to go is actually to clean everything up as fast as apossible, and to make sure you get Hoover Dam (free Hydro Plant = no extra pollution), and you should build Mass Transit as soon as possible.

Also, planting forest whereever the land isn't used CAN lower the impact.....

The visible pollution (i.e. the 5 polluted areas you mention) has NO effect on global warming. What matters is the amount of pollution points you (and the rest of the world) create, i.e. the yellow triangles you can see in your city display box (or check the demographics view).
Where exactly in demographics view? I remember there is only number of already polluted ares, but no pollution/turn number.

Pollution is created by factories (hydro plants or hoover dams, however, negate this) but also by population. IIRC, each citizen over size 12 creates one pollution. This pollution can be negated by building mass transits.
And what about pollution-from-shied-production? What is the limit of non-polluted production?

In other words, build mass transits in your bigger cities.
i.e. in every city. :-) It's clear, but i still need some science ;-)

And once again the same question: what is the limit for next step of warming? Someth like tech development and unit production I mean.

Dran

also do not change from one tech to another if you can help it - what you researched into one direction gets lost if you change to another!!!!!

Reducing science output when a tech is coming up is excellent advice. Remember to put it back where you need it as soon as you learn that tech though.

Instead of selecting the next tech from the dropdown and clicking OK, always go to the "big picture". Select your tech there and immediately go to the Domestic Advisor screen to adjust your research. Otherwise you will be researching at the reduced rate for this turn.

Shaitan: IIRC, all science beakers are counted at the beginning, then you get the pop-up - so no difference on drop-down or bigger picture.

I read somewhere that irrigation is not very useful in CIV3 and that one should mine instead.
I suppose that it is not useful however to mine a square with 0 or 1 shields. Am I correct?
I like to mine all grasslands including bonus ones. THis way I get alot of shields and my cities are still going to reach size 6-8. Only into the Modern Age is when I change mines to irrigation. Plains are always irrigated.

I usually mine bonus grassland and leave normal grassland alone unitl I get out of dsepo. Then, I irrigate that.

Does building a Great Wonder that aligns with your civ's national characteristics ALWAYS trigger a Golden Age, or is it just a percentage chance that a GA occurs ?

(I'm Japan & just got Leo's which triggered my GA, but I would have preferred to have got one later via a UU victory).

P.S. Thanks Hurricane, 'Killer' & Shaitan for answers re 'researching techs'.

Dran: if you haven't had your GA yet you trigger it (100%) by building (a) wonder(s) that fit(s) your traits. if one fits both it is enouhg, if not you need two.

be carefull, capturing a wonder doesn't count, but when you build the next one (whichever that is), the captured wonder DOES count!!!!!

Thanks.

That's how it happened - I had captured the Colossus before building Leo's so being Religious & Militaristic my GA was triggered. Bit of a blow - I wanted a UU victory GA with a Samurai so I could go to town with them.
Oh well - I've got to be happy with Leo's though...

Willj: you can blockade trades only during war, but you can block luxuries (place Scouts on them) and similar stuff during peace. Alos, you can keep the enemy from building a road to somewhere using Scouts or even troops (in neutral land or by using RoPs).
I have heard the strategy of blockading with privateers during peacetime, and I got confused when I noticed in the manual that you must be at war to blockade. So does the privateer blockade strategy work because you don't need to be at war to blockade with privateers, like Hurricane said?

hmmmmmmm i'm playing a huge pangaea map with 14 civs and i pretty much just started it but i've got contact with the aztecs and the iroqois.. but yet i cannot talk to them unless i have one of thier units in my view and right click and contact them that way.. when i don't have any of thier units in any of my units/cities view, i can't contact them. and when i go the foreign advisor screen there are question marks as if i havn't contacted anyone when i've spoken to the iroquois once and the aztecs several times how do i talk to them?!?!?

Normally I can right click on a square close to a river to ensure that it actually counts as having fresh water. However, for inland lakes this doesn't work. My question is, will the square shown in red have fresh water, and therefore not require an aquaduct?? It is diagonal from a one square lake. Thanks!

Maybe you rushed an improvement in the city where you want to build it, so it's grayed out, or maybe you have it building in a different city already? Remember to build your Military Academy in your highest production city - armies are very expensive to build, and it will take too long unless you produce close to 100 shields per turn.

Doesn't the little "start diplomacy" on the side of the mini-map work?

Sanaz:

I know about building Military Academy in my most productive city, see that is how I noticed my problem. I built the Heroic epic in my capital (I am trying to max out Washington with culture & He has 4 per turn) well I got the HE built & wanted to build the MA in Kansas City (118 shields per turn) unfortunatly I was not able to do so. The ONLY city that had the option to build the MA was Washington. (the last place I want it) I did not rush buy anything, no forests were cleared, & no option to bulid the MA out of Washington (not even grayed out).

I use shift-D. The FAQ :

States :

How do I view the other 8 civs on the foreign advisor screen in a 16 player game?

Shift-rightclick on a portait to change it to another civ. There still is a maximum of 8 portaits at any time

Maybe post a saved game? I always build them at the same time, in two different cities, so I have no idea what's happening in your game.
