Thanks, Grille, for the reply.. I did that. It said I could use my own avatar.. I have enough posts. But that is where I failed.

Nevermind. I was just not seeing the right buttons..... :o

I asked this question before and tried what people suggested to me, but it didn't work. Or I did something wrong.

Original question:
Is there a way to rename individual units such as a knight or cavalry unit? For example, renaming one knight unit to "1st Knight division"

Someone had suggested that I right click on the unit. But when I do that I get only two options: activate or disband.

Am I doing something wrong or is it not possible to rename individual units?

thanks,
Ben E Gas

You can rename any and all units with PTW. This feature is not available in vanilla Civ3

.......until you "create" a Great Leader during battle.
In that specific case you can rename the ONE unit that won the battle and created the GL........BUT, you have to rename it IMMEDIATELY after creating the GL. (viz. You only have ONE opportunity to rename the unit!)

What happens when you either paradrop, or heledrop onta an existing unit? Is a fight worked out, or do you just die?

Any unit that paradrops on an existing unit automatically dies. Even friendly units - I paradropped on the French w/ a ROP and it still got killed. :(

Why is it that sometimes I will go to the upgrade unit thing and upgrade like 2 of my units, but then it won't give me the option after that for awhile? Is there a good reason for this?

I know Shift-U will upgrade all units of that type, but sometimes I don't have that kind of money so I have to do it that way...but it will only let me do a couple! (Civ3 v. 1.29f, NOT PTW).

Thanks,

Sam

I'm not sure if I understand your problem.
When you upgrade your units, they will reach automatically the best status available (regarding tech level). There won't be an inbetween stage (e.g. you have a horseman and know Military Tradition; upgrading horse will create a cav, not a knight). The upgrade button will show again if you own the right tech and resource (not the case for cav). So the button won't be there for a while.

To upgrade:

1) The unit must be in a city with a barracks
2) That city must have acess to the required resources for the unit you are upgrading to.
3) You must have enough money in the treasury to upgrade that unit.

If any of these conditions are not fulfilled you will not see the 'Upgrade' icon, and pressing 'U' will not do anything.

is it possible to get a GL from a boat. I never have really thought that u could, but what the hell ill ask anyway :)

And in case anyone's wondering, there aren't any air GLs either.

yeah, that leads me to another question. What is the difference between a regular plane, and a veteran one.

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????, i have never had an elite plane. I use them ALOT. And what does it matter how many hitpoints they have, if they get attacked then they blow up.!

I don't know for sure, but I'm assuming that air battles are decided in a similar way to ground battles. Of course, w/o each combat round showing.
Otherwise, it wouldn't make sense to promote them.

Well, they can get injured in the cause of a fight. BTW, a bomber surviving interception seems to be always red.

Yeah, when they get intercepted. There'll be a battle sometimes and the survivor will be injured. It sucks though that you don't see the battle. Since an interception battle is seen quite rarely for me, it makes aiports almost useless - but the good thing is, you can airlift and it's a trade link.
