I believe hit points do make a diifference even though I make sure to let only cities with airports build air units. Just a couple of days ago I saw one of my fighters in battle for the first time and it just so happened the pilot barely outlasted the AI avaiator. The fighter's healthbar was 1/4 full following combat. I got a question for someone here. I just discovered fission but can't build UN. Any hands? Yes, you there, go ahead.

you can't build the UN because it is either:

A) Already built
B) Diplomatic Victory is off.

or
1) One if your cities is already bui;ding it
2) U have chopped down some trees next to the city you are trying too build it in.

Although hygro was probably right anyway ;)

Thanks for everyones help in advance....

1) What does the abbreviation GOTM stand for? Is there a complete list of commonly used abbreviations anywhere?

2) On the main welcome screen to Civfanatics I see these reports about this Democracy game. (the indo war just ended ect, apparently you can sign up to be a part of this). What exactly is this democracy game? I looked at the links for it, but I really couldn't find anything telling me what it was all about. The FAQ from version 1 of the game was a dead link. Is there an up to date FAQ that anyone knows of?

3) Are the 3D editing programs like Flicster shareware? Or would it be best to try and download them off Kazaa or something similar?

Thanks
Maples

1) Game of the Month - other ab. in FAQ thread (may not be complete list)
2) read Thunderfall's announcement, stickied at the top of "General Discussions", might give you an idea. Generally, it's kind of a shared game (by many users)
3)Don't know; piracy isn't welcome here, mentioning Ka*aa here is :nono:

Hello,

On the renaming the individual units: I have PTW. I still cannot rename my individual units. Can you explain to me how I change the name of my individual units.....again? Maybe I missed something. I was able to change the name of a great leader unit but not my regular units. I think it would be cool if I could.

Thanks,
Ben E. Gas

Ben, you must press "shift+n" but not the plus symbol.

Or you can go to prefrences and find the option that allows you to see al the unit actions, which should show you the button to rename units.

The "culturally linked start locations" box seems not to function to me.

I leave it blank, start a game (emperor level, standard map, selected civs) but the americans are always close to the astecs, germany to england and japan to china. I dont understand, they should be far from each other. I started more than 15 games and same thing happens, although the box is not checked.

I'm playing Civ 3 - 1.21.

Can anybody here tell me what might be going on with my game?

Thanks in advance.

1st off, they shouldn't be "far" it should just simply be random.

I must admit though, I too notice it being slightly buggy.

Thanks Hygro, I'll try that.

--How do I post screen shots? Also, how would I email my screen shots to other people, friends, etc.?

-thanks.

first of all you take one (alt +print screen)
Paste it in paint or sumthin
save it
then add it as an attachment - same as for emailing

The full answer would take more space than I should probably give it here in the Newbie Questions Thread. ;) But I'll try a condensed version.

The Democracy Game is a game being "played" by a relatively large group of people. Only one person, the "Designated Player" is allowed to actually play the game. The "DP" is normally the President, but there is a chain of command established to determine who will play if the President is unavailable.

Elections are held periodically (monthly, in our game) to elect the officials who will run the game: Pres/VP, Ministers of Culture,Trade, Military, etc., Governors of the owned provinces, etc. These people are empowered to make decisions about the game, but they are also required to discuss their plans in the forums, to allow for citizen input.

About twice a week, the President (or other DP) meets with all other citizens who can attend on the IRC channel #demogame, and plays zero or more turns of the game. When action takes place that is outside the scope of our plans (e.g. "The Aztecs declared war on us!") the game is stopped, and discussion returns to the forums.

Here is a link to the Game Rules, which contains links to the "Three Books": the Constitution, the Code of Laws, and the Code of Standards. And here is The Welcome Center.

I recently won a game on Regent (standard map, PTW 1.21f). But about 5 turns before I launched my spaceship, Mother Russia declared war on me for not giving her a tech.
Feeling my victory was a little hollow, I continued playing a few more turns and launched an ICBM at Moscow. Suddenly, Mongolia cancelled his trade agreements with me and declared war. With that, I quit the game.

Next morning, I loaded an autosave that was just before I launched that ICBM and got Mongolia to enter an alliance against Russia. I waited til I had 6 ICBMs and then launched them on Russia. Mongolia was still polite with me.

Why? If using ICBMs was objectionable before, why not now? Mongolia and Russia did not have a MMP or anything. In fact, they were bitter foes for a very long time, dragging them each into communism and allowing me (the Ottomans) to take the tech lead.

Actually, that's pretty sensible behaviour by the Ai, for a change :)

The UK was in an alliance with the USA in WW2, so I don't think the UK was particularly upset by the US bombing Hiroshima - after all, it's still an attack on a common enemy, whatever the rights and wrongs of atomic weapons use.

While I don't know exactly how the AI treats use of nukes, it seems reasonable they are more 'understanding' of your use when it's against an enemy they have in common with you.

For post 1000 of tis thread, here's my question:

Does the AI fear you more when you have mutual protection pacts?

Now let's hope reply 1000 answers it ;)
