Bombard effects are pictures of explosions. Turn them off if you don;t like the explosions from artillery and cruise missiles.

Nope, it still requires the resource and technology to build the nuclear weapons.

EDIT: nevermind, Hygro answered that already. :)

a size 7 city and a walled city provide the same defense.

great doubles double city defensive values, so it will help cities as much as walled towns. If the GW didn't become obsolete when it does, think of how strong a 13+ metropolis would be
Yeah, but I wasn't talkin about the gw becoming obselete, just about the effect of gw enhanced walls in a city that has a wall but grows to size 7+.
No offense intended billindenver, but since I seem to have a habit of being misinterpreted can someone confirm this?

great walls double city defensive values.
This means a town gets no defensive value (0% *2 = 0),
walled towns get +100% (50% *2 = 100%)
cities get 100% (50% *2 = 100%)
metros would be 200%, but the GW is obsolete before then.

Sorry to belabor this dude.

So your sayin a city is normally 50%, but if gw enhanced wall is present (from before growth to 7+), its 100%?

that's what I'm saying :)

WOOHOO, thats not the impression I got from billindenver.

So its not a complete waste of time building walls in towns just b4 they become cities IF you have the great wall!

I always suspected this but the way most strat essays word it it seemed as if the walls just 'turn off' when the town becomes a city.

yeh, I used to think the Great Wall sucked, but now I know it's awsome!

Sorry, I didn't read your original question properly. I thought you were asking if you lost the effects of regular walls when your city becomes size 7. My bad.

Yeah.I'm playin gotm17 atm(carthage),got the lighthouse already and im considering the gw to get a ga (I hope) but a lot of my cities are size 6 waiting on aqueducts; I really didn't want to build a wonder whose ONLY benefit was a ga.
Thanx heaps Hygro!

Nah, it was my reading not your writing that did me in:). Glad somebody else was reading more carefully than me.

Where is the info from concerning this undocumented feature of the GW?

Everything I read states that walls are obsolete with cities. I have been at CFC for a little while, I am suprised I have not seen this mentioned before... :hmm:

Anarres, in the editor, the GW has "doubles city's defense" instead of "double's wall strength"

You will also notice it is very hard to take cities (but not unwalled towns) when they are behind the GW.

 I have been looking at incorporating some user created units, but when I go to edit them, I am not sure what the rate of fire applies to. Can someone please clarify what the rate of fire means?
Cheers!

Maples45

rate of fire has to do with bombarding.

If an artillery unit has a rate of fire, it can hit the unit it targets only once.

If it has 2, it can hit the unit up to two times.

The more rate of fire, the more damage an artillery piece can inflict in one shot.

Question about the manhattan project: it says that every nation can now build nuclear weapon. What if a nation didn't discover aluminium yet, can they still build the nuclear weapon?:nuke:

Actually you need uranium to build nukes. I think you have to research fission for uranium to appear on the map.

you also need aluminum

But isn't there a difference between the AI's attitude towards myself being bad and my reputation being scratched? As far as I have gathered, you can get everybody furious by just being a bastard and still have an unsullied reputation. (perfect reputation: necessary for others to trade with you. correct?)

Thanks for those answers!

Ok, clarification:

Attitude is the thing you see when you talk to the AI:s. Attitude goes from Furious to Gracious. This has only a small effect on trading, in that a gracious civ probably will sell something to you for a slightly less price than a furious civ. The difference is negligable, however. You mostly want to care about attitude if you want to win a diplomatic victory.

Reputation concerns trading much more. As soon as you have destroyed your reputation (by braking a deal in any way) the AI will never again trade a one-time good (like a tech) for a long-time good (like gpt or a resource). This has a major impact on trading.
