This makes me curious too! Never raze cities, so it is new to me, you can get slaves.

I just finished a game last night, winning by launching the space ship. After the game, I checked the "history summary", and figured out that the poor Korea and China never had their GA.

It's under my impression that the new Internet wonder is kind of created to assure every civ a GA, but apparantly I'm wrong about this one. I'm wondering, since the completion of The Internet "may trigger the GA for all civs", and I did build it way before the game ended, there must be something else that should be combined with the Internet wonder to trigger the GA. Since Korea and China have totally different traits (Commercial + Scientific, Industrious + Militaristic), I just can't think of any answer that makes sense to me. Maybe someone can tell me what else is necessary for The Internet to trigger a GA? Or, it's simply a percentage thing, and that Korea and China in my game just got bad luck?

BTW, the game is PTW (uh, with Korea, of course), with patch 1.14v.

Thanks in advance :goodjob:

re: internet question I think you're misunderstanding what it does. Korea or China would have had to build the Internet themselves to get a GA with it.

(or presumably, as with other wonders, capture it and then build an additional wonder)

@ anarres: I rarely use nukes, so I can't say anything for certain, but this is what the manual says about them: "All units in the target square and adjacent squares have only a 50% chance of surviving... <snip> In addition, a bombed city loses half of its population"

It doesn't say anything about improvements being destroyed or that units could get only damaged.

I tried (long time ago) to launch an amphibious assault with an army filled with marines only. It did not work. But I'm pretty sure that it was v1.07. Maybe this was fixed by a later patch (although I don't believe it was).

You don't get any workers by razing cities (same for abandon city).

 You most certainly do. And the bigger the city the more you get, although like most who've replied so far, I've never bothered to actually count.

Renata is correct, you are apparantly just misinterpreting what the Internet does. ;)

It doesn't give a GA to all civs that haven't had one, but gives you one if you haven't had one before you build it. Basically, if *your* civ hasn't had its GA yet, and you build the Internet, you*will* get your GA. It doesn't matter what characteristics your civ has, which is why it "may trigger the GA for all civs".

Thanks, Renata & Padma :goodjob:

The explanation is that I pretty much messed up the concepts of The Internet and the Manhatten Project. :) Actually, I don't have any problem about Korea and China not getting a GA. ;)

UN Voting:

Built the UN and called a vote: 6 civs remaining of a starting 8 and here are the votes

Carthage: Carthage
France: Carthage
Greece: Carthage
Korea: Korea
England: Korea
Spain: Abstained (was at war with everyone)

Why didn't I win??? Vote was inconclusive!!! WHY?

I've seen this someplaces, but can't find them again.

If there are more than 8 civs, and u can't see them all on the foreign screen, what do u press to see all the rest?

And how do u use stack movement, rather than moving like 100 units 1 by 1?

I saw someone answer this before. You need a majority of the civs, not just more votes than anyone else. So with six civs left you would need four votes.

Thanx for responding...I didn't think it would work, since when you are attacking with an army, its technally the unit "Army" not whatever is in it....oh well...back to the drawing board! :goodjob:

more than 8 civs: shift-right-click on any leaderhead on foreign advisor's screen -> get a choice to replace the actual head with a missing one
stack movement (vanilla civ3): press j (similar to 'go to' command)-> all active units of same type will be moved (works also for air units' rebase missions); note: there are different options in PTW

Thanks. So is the vanilla version just the latest patch (1.29f) or do I need to go search out a "vanilla" mod?

Marine armies don't have the amphibious assult :( At least, that's what I read in a very old file. I know it's old because it tells you that the ToE gives you "two CHEAPEST techs" when that has been changed.

You get no slave workers when you raze a city except those that you have already captured, I believe.

Question:

What is the exact effect of:

1) Tactical Nukes fired on a city
2) Tactical Nukes fired on a stack of units
3) ICBM's fired on a city
4) ICBM's fired on a stack of troops

Thanks.

Tacticals and ICBMs are similar - they form a ring of pollution, nine squares, around the destination (whether it is a city or units). Units have a 50% chance of surivival, and terrain is turned into desert. If the terrain is next to a river it turns into flood plain. Chances are good that a nuke will totally decimate a whole stack of units. I've fired a nuke on a stack of units and almost all were destroyed, and the survivors were all injured.

The major difference is the cost and range between ICBMs and tacticals. Tacticals can be moved around but have a smaller range, and ICBMs are worldwide but can't be moved around.

What now? As a master of slavery :D , can I sleep well? Or did I miss them because I was unlucky?

As hbdragon88 said, there may be some confusion about workers/settlers in a city that is captured. Choose raze, and they will -of course- appear on city center square. So one could draw the conclusion to get slaves. But one will get them even w/o razing.
