Vincenzo, check and see if there's a number of civs defined on the Scenario Properties page. If there's custom player data that number will override the map setting.

ehm
here it goes again (prev post on p64)

when i try to play multiplayer games with my freind, and i host, after awhile and it becomes a new turn a textbox comes up sayin that the file (the game i and my freind are playing) has been saved to the name resynch.sav and that i should with no problems be able to reload that file. The textbox also say, this error have occour becouse a unknow message or something has been sent.... any1 know what this could depend on?

I created a scenario using the editor, but the civ leaders have no names - it just says China, Japan, etc under the pictures in the diplomacy screen. When I go into the editor rules on the civilizations tab, it shows the correct leader names.
Any ideas?
Thanks

um...i've just started replaying civ 3 again and there seems to be something strange happening to my workers when you put them on automate. Mainly, they don't do anything and head for the nearest city, whereupon they just stay there until you move them manually. this didn't happen at the beginning of the game but just started happening suddenly about 70 or so turns into the game

any ideas what might cause this? I'm fairly early into the game, so my guess is that the workers have nothing to do? anyway, if anyone could shed some light on this puzzling incident i would be most grateful :D

i did check the faq for this problem but it only had a solution for workers that built unwanted stuff.

May depend on your current version, but if you go 1.07 -> 1.29 there's a lot of changes/fixes. See the readme file that comes along w/ the patch for details.

I'm going from "the box" version, no previous downloads is that a problem?

Yup. Go to the main page and find the patches link, and d/l the newest patch. Patches update the game and rebalance it. It's always a good idea to patch the game when a new one comes out.

So, when you load Civ, on the bottom left corner there's something like 1.29f, or 1.21f (PTW). What's it say in your corner? This will be the version number. I'm thinking if you got the Civ3:Game of the Year edition, it's probably patched to 1.29.

Just looked back at the original posts. I see you reinstalled the game. Try patching it again, but before you do, take a couple of preventive measures.

Turn off your machine. Let it sit for about a minute. This will ensure that the RAM is flushed (i.e. - empty). (Okay you tech weenies - A minute may be longer than needed, but it won't hurt, either.)

Immediately after turning the machine back on, install the patch. Don't run anything else, don't go to any websites, nuthin'. Just go right to the patch and run it.

If you're still getting errors, please write them down exactly and post them back to this thread. Please let us know exactly what it says, and what OS you're running. This might have some bearing to the problem.

I'm kinda curious now what's going on, so if nothing else, at least PM me and let me know, if you don't mind.

@Alki: Make sure to use the right language version of the patch, maybe you clicked accidentally the wrong d/l link.

@Corso: Hmm, maybe you post your question in the multiplayer section.

@ es_tango: Never automate workers, your observation is just one problem!!! Especially in the beginning of a game (that's 70 turns at least), you want to build improvements on carefully chosen tiles (and re-assign your citizens to work those tiles). Automatted workers build "wrong" stuff, change improvements or just chill out :smoke:

(Once you know about commerce and such, you may use some specific kinds of worker automation later in a game.)

Okay Dokey Chunky Monkey I'll try and download again when I get home this evening and keep you informed of my progress.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.:o

1: Do you suffer a rep hit if the civ your giving GPT (or a luxury) to gets wiped out?

2: What if you had a 20 turn treaty (such as in renegotiate peace?)

Not sure how the game would respond, and if you do this be careful and back stuff up, and I haven't tried it, so no warranty explicit or implied is contained in this post....:)

have you tried just finding the music file you don't like, and overwriting it with one you do like.
Try your C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Sounds\Diplomusic folder and try renaming a few files, that might work.

BUT BACK IT ALL UP FIRST, and don't do it if you aren't confident of getting it right and/or back to how you have it now....remember, no warranty, explicit or implied

It does work. New files must be named like old ones.

es_tango: depends on how you automate. If you just SHIFT-A, then they won't build over any improvements already built - so there might not be anything for them to do. Also, I think its CTRL-A makes them automate just for one particular city - in which case its very likely that they have nothing else to do.

Many folks just SHIFT-A in the A.D.s because manually operating workers after that point is just too dern tedious.

vincenzo:

you might try starting with an existing scenario (or just the default bic file) and editing it. Don't know how you got to that particular issue.

Corso:

You got the dreaded Out of Sync message. It is common - fortunately not too common, but common enough to make this great game get really bad reviews. There are a lot of issues that can cause this - but often it is out of your hands. It frequently happens during combat when two people are attacking eachother into the same square. If you are in late game, it is well known that aircraft are a major cause of OOS messages. Don't use airplanes in multiplayer.

What are they calling the next patch again? Oh yeah, Conquests :/

I am just starting w/ Civ.

I played a game with 2 other AI countries. At the end of 2050, I had created 5 of the 7 great wonders. I had never gone to war. I had equilivant technology. I had more money than the other two.

I had 5 of the 6 largest cities. But my score was lower than both Greece and India.

I traded luxuries with both contries. Both were polite to me.

They did seem to have more cities than I had. How important is that?

Welcome!

Part of your score is determined by how many people you have. You get points for every happy/content citizen you have. So more cities = more pop = more points. You also get points for territory. More cities = more territory = more points.

In older versions of Civ, one could get away with a few power house cities and dominate the world. Civ3 is a bit different than that. So if you have prior experience with the Civ series (You say just starting with Civ, but you don't mention this game or the series) you might have to rething your strategies. If your new to the series, I sugges you pull up a chair here (which you've already done) and dive into CFC. There is a wealth of information here. Stroll over to the War Academy and read up on some of the game strategies. There is also the Strategy and Tips sub-forum, that is under the CivIII forums here. Both are excellent places to start.

Don't be afraid to ask questions, either. I mean, obviously you've asked one already, but don't stop there. If we don't know the answer to your question, we'll figure it out pretty quick.

Happy Civving!

Hello, i hope somebody can help me. I am playing now on the huge world map and i want to edit corruption to normal hight. I have a lot of city's that are producing only 1 shield, i can understand that if the city is far from your capital it has corruption. But with al the anti-corruptions improvements build it should not be more than half the shields of something.

I hope i can edit it with my savegame, but also for new games i want it fixed.
Please help me!

Try Gramphos MultiTool. That might do it.

however, there are several in game solutions.

This thread: Do you think you understand corruption? is an excellent article on corruption and how to defeat it.

To be honest, I'm not sure you can edit your save, but the multitool might help.

Before starting your next game, get into the editor, and in one of the tabs, I think it's World Size, there is a corruption percentage slider. Reducing this to 50% or so vastly decreases the corruption. There is a menu option, Custom Rules. Make sure this is checked-marked, and once it is you'll be able to edit the rules.

Also, are you patched to the highest level? This might have something to do with it.

Ok ... Here is my newbie question ... When I have stacked units (in the open or in a city) how does the AI select which of my units will be the first defender against an attack? Is there any way to change the default?

It seems that - at times - the unit chosen to defend would not be my choice .... for instance, in my current game I'm playing as the Vikings and noticed that my ulta-expensive (albeit - cool) Berskerk units were defending against knight attacks when perfectly expendable (and equally adept at defense) spearmen were available. I have also noticed this with cavalry units stacked with pikemen

If I remember my Econ 101 this just doesn't make sense ...using Berserk units as the "front line of defense" is like putting a hospital's brain surgeons on janitorial duty becuase "they're the best at keeping the hospital clean".

Anyway - any help or hints to keep my "high attack" units from being my first defenders would be appreciated.

Thx
