It is definitely much more aggressive in PTW. Every single game I play there is always a sneak attack or early war with some one else. :) The AI always causes it.

If I conquer a city that has Theory of Evolution...do I get two civ. advances?

No, only the person who built it will get them.... Though if you capture the Great Libary (before it's effects wear out) you will still get the free technologies.

Damn server upgrade and stuff...

Thanks everyone even though I never saw them ;)

anarres: Wouldn't you like to know :p

I just bought Vanilla Civ3 and PTW. Do I need to install the latest patches for both or just for PTW since that is what I will be playing?

BTW...been lurking here for awhile and have gathered a lot of good information, Thanks.

You only need to download the PTW patches. PTW immeditaly updates Vanilla Civ to the 1.29f patch.

Welcome to CfC :)

Question regarding rush building in despotism. Does whipping your labor to rush production cause unrest? Will I end up with more unhappy peoples in my nation because of it? In just the city I whipped or in other cities as well?

For each citizen that you sacrifice to rush production, one citizen who would otherwise be content will be made unhappy, for 20 turns, in that city. There's no effect in other cities you control.

having 2 citizen rush a temple would cancel out the unrest tough because it gives 1 happy citizen, then making a work/settler would get rid of the unhappy citizen i think.

I don't completely understand your comment, but you can't make the unhappy citizen from rushing "go away" by building a worker or settler.

Hi everybody .
Playing civ III long enough to win at regent and still have no idea

How can I activate debug mode in PTW?
What are the possibilities (what can I do/see/change) in that mode? Are there some additional information about gameplay provided somewhere (like what enemy civs research, their reputation, player civ reputation etc.)?

Thanks for your responses.

Open up your editor.

Find the 'Custom Rules' line in the Menu. I'm at work, and don't have the editor in front of me, but it's the second or third option on the right.

I don't remember if it's in the properties tab, or if it's under the custom rules, but hunt around a bit, you'll find it. I think it is in the Properties, but not sure.

Make sure you save it as a scenario. Something you can remember for later, like Debug.Bix or somesuch.

Open PTW, click on Load Scenario, find Debug.Bix (if you called it that) and load it.

Then play. Never used it, but it there. . .

I know this is a pretty dumb question, especially since it is the newbies thread, and well...

But I've built the UN, and an inconclusive election occurred. Times changed, and I am likely to win the vote now. How do you trigger the UN vote when you own the UN? do you have to wait until the game pops up with the "do you want to hold a vote" dialog, or is there a button somewhere which will hold a vote?

Wow, that was a quick answer.

Thanks a lot. But now I'm dissapointed ;). I have to wait now.
How often are they held? every 10-20 turns? or on specific dates?

Ah, good question, and I was expecting that one. Honestly, I don't know, but I believe it's 10 years or something. According to the FAQ it's 20 turns.
