A river works in place of an aqueduct, you need a hospital to grow above 12.
If you have PTW then you can press Ctrl + j to get the SAME type of units to move together, if you want all units then just press j.
I assemble troops at the border first. It works best for me :)

Sorry about that. I'll mod my post to point people at yours.

@vincenzo

When attacking AI cities, it's best to assure one that have 50-50 chance of two. The problem being, especially in later ages with RR etc, that the AI will draft and reinforce any target cities, and units will heal (especially with barracks). So I prefer overwhelming force against a first target, then shift my attack to a second if it looks like a decent chance subsequently. Since the AI often spreads defenders pretty evenly the first city's garrison is a good estimate for that of your next target.

caveat: I'm an industrial warmonger only; good tactics for ancient wars might be very different.

Is there a way to automate a worker to improve but not replace, and stay in the same city?
Shift-A causes him to run off out of the city to work?
Thanks

I think it's Ctrl-Shift-A. PTW has it as a button too, I think (again).

edit: dammit, wrong again. where's the "embarrassed smilie" when you need it?

vincenzo: SHIFT-CTRL-I is the "this city only" automation without changing improvements.

Edit: Added image of PTW button

I just checked the game, and the Aztec city I conquered was still connected by one road to the rest of the Aztec empire.
As soon as I made peace with the Aztecs, rubber was available as a resource everywhere in my empire, which makes sense if there had been a harbor.

Turner_727, would your suggestion also work if there would be another Aztec city with a harbor nearby? I spied the two Aztec cities adjacent to the one I captured, and both of them had no harbor, but since the Aztecs do have overseas trade, they must have at least one, somewhere. Could this be the answer?

It would work if you were at peace with the nation you trade 'through'. In fact any and all nations wtih which you have peace, and no trade emabrgo, form part of your potential trade network. So your 'rubber city' could trade along Aztec roads to an American city, through American roads to an American port, then by ship to a Zambian port (on a land-locked ocean, say) then by road to a Zambian airport, then to your own airport, then along your own roads to all your cities. Convoluted example, I agree.

When I built the embassy in the other civs, I was able to peek at their capital. How do I bring that screen up again?
What is the level of espionage I can do in the ancient/middle ages? Can I see where there trooops are located?
Thanks

You have to double-click on the start next to your capitals name/production. That should bring up a pop-up that promts you on what you want to do.

You can't see where there troops are located intill you have the interlligance agency.

For vanilla civ3, type "Shift-E" or click the small E button on the right of the info box which will bring up the Espionage options. The ones available with an embassy are "Investigate City" which is the same as the free peek you got earlier and "Steal Technology" IIRC. Viewing troops is "Steal Plans" which is only available with a spy. Note the Espionage screen itself is way different in PTW but it can be brought up the same way. (I never do that "click on the star icon" business ;))

Hi MadScot,

Convoluted or not, thanks anyway. This clears things up!

Thanks,

Thanks for the info everybody.
I keep having a problem as I expand and build new cities. In areas that have a lot of gold or gems, there is often not enough food to support much population, either mtns or desert. Even an irrigated desert only produces one food. It seem like unless a square produces 2 food it is not supporting the people on it. Is this a common problem, or am I doing something wrong?
thanks

vincenzo,

Desert gives 2 food when irrigated when you build railroads on them. Early on in the game some cities will be small in size, but with steam power you will be able to grow them much bigger.

When you open an embassy (or conduct an investigation), you'll be taken immediately to the correlative city display screen. IIRC, after leaving the screen, you can bring it up it again by double-clicking on that city in the very same turn.
If you were referring to an investigation in general at any point of time, follow Strider's advice.

Weird question:
"You are disgraced" - under what circumstances?
Does it show up in general case of losing, regardless of the victory condition hit by ai?

When you lose, you are always disgraced.

is it totally impossible to try to compete with the AIs to build the early Great Wonders such as Pyramids and Oracle?

On deity, you have to be really lucky to get the Pyramids. Usually, people only try to get the Great Library by extensive prebuilding. Of course, if you are lucky enough to get a leader, anything is possible.

Wrong, you have to double click on the star next to A.I. Capital city, not yours, its same for spying mission, it is initiated through a.i. capital ( where your embasy is).
