BOTM 127: Pericles of Arabia.

Camel Archers. Camel Archers are a great unit. They will be even better in a world without strategic resources. And even better if you start with Guilds. You still need to research Archery and Horseback Riding. You will want Archery soon anyway because the barbarians (and all other civs) start with it.
Another game designed as easy mode deity level. I changed the rice to corn and added the hills and the two golds in the starting screenshot.
First player to correctly guess the substitutions I made in the world builder file wins a real prize. Guesses should be posted in first spoiler (which will reveal the prize) and only one per player.
Pericles because he has only been featured in one previous botm (Saladin has starred in ten).

Game settings:
Playing as: Pericles of Arabia
Rivals: 6 AIs
Difficulty: Deity
Starting Era:
Ancient
Speed: Normal
Options: Unrestricted leaders, no goody huts, no random events
Victory Conditions:
All enabled

Map settings:
Map: Pangaea
World Wrap: Cylindrical
Mapsize: Worldsize_standard
Climate: Climate_temperate
Sea level: Sealevel_medium

Pericles is Philosophical and Creative, and you start with Mysticism, Guilds and The Wheel.
The Philosophical trait gives +100% great people birth rate and double production speed of University

The Creative trait gives +2 culture/city each turn and double production speed of Colosseum, Library and Theatre

Unique unit: Camel Archer (replaces Knight)
The Camel Archer benefits from: can withdraw from combat (15% chance), requires knowledge of Guilds, Horseback Riding and Archery, and requires access to nothing. This compares with the Knight which has: cannot withdraw from combat, requires knowledge of Guilds and Horseback Riding, and requires access to horse and iron.

Unique Building: Madrassa (replaces Library)
+4 :culture: (instead of 2), Can create two Priest Specialists (as well as two Scientists)
double production with Creative Rulers

While playing...

Remember - for your entry to be accepted, it MUST be your first attempt to play this game, and you MUST NOT replay any turns. If you make a mistake while playing, you have to live with it, learn from it, and carry on the game without replaying.

We will open 'spoiler' threads during the month for players to discuss what happens in their games. Do not discuss any details of your game outside those threads.

No strategic resources at all, or just no metal/horses? If there is no stone, marble, coal, oil, and aluminum as well Space will be less appealing.

That would be telling.
Spoiler SPOILER :
No copper, iron, ivory, or horses.

I hope to check before game starts and let you know for sure, but IIRC: some civs have stone nearby while none are industrious. After making game and seeing synergy of Madrassa with Philosophical/Creative I realized how good the Pyramids would be. GLWT (good luck with that) :mischief:

Well, there is clearly a changed tile in the start screen. Would have been an interesting OCC game.

Interesting - I was just looking at which units will be impossible without Iron (though I'm suspicious Deckhand has picked 6 AIs with resourceless special units for us).It seems like Iron is required for Cuirs and Cannons but not required for Cavalry and 1-moving Gunpowder units. Never really paid much attention to this as usually Iron is always available by that point in the game.

I assume Iron and Copper can still pop from that mining event? That could yield some surprise Pikes later in the game - and will probably have me keeping my eyes on map for the first magic copper pop for building Wonders/Life Support.

By the way, nice Camel Archer image!

Spoiler Stone Spoiler :
OK, One civ has stone in its BFC; another has stone available for a second city, and you also could get stone with second city.
No civs are industrious.

:nono:
Spoiler :
I took steps to prevent that.
Good question.
Spoiler :
I think workshops will really shine this game.

By the way, nice Camel Archer image!
Thanks. Only one I could find where the camel was the archer.

 so every hill on the map has some non-strat resource on it...otherwise the map is quite flat

Spoiler :
ofc, I see one hill without a resource if we don't SIP :D

Spoiler :
uranium :nuke:
aluminium:c5capital:
everywhere

or... Oh wow... May I try a guess on the substitution challenge?
