Very unusually, almost all the top places in this game went to relative newcomers. The virus lockdown everywhere must be having an effect!

Congratulations to @Powerfaker for a 1570 AD fastest domination and the gold medal. Evidently, no faking the power there! While @Anysense got the silver medal and fastest conquest on his first ever GOTM. The third highest score went to another newcomer, @Tonny. But because @Tonny played the adventurer save, no medal - allowing Jovan Kukic to pick up the Bronze medal for a 1770AD domination.

We had a wide range of fastest finishes this time, with @shakabrade gaining fastest diplo in 1780 AD - and with the challenger save too! Since the challenger save was a deity level save, that was some achievement. The only space win went to @neilmeister in 1856 AD and the only cultural win to @zbgayumn in 1912AD.

Well done everyone! Immortal makes for a difficult level - especially when you have Montezuma as your nearest AI!

Most people decided to remain on the plains hill, presumably sacrificing the chance for multiple food resources in the capital in order to get the faster worker production. But a few ventured onto the flood plains to get more food, with @Kime11 making it as far as the coast, while @HassiSan headed North. Not sure the the motivation would've been, but that lucky move brought in an extra cow.

The Small Print:
The numbers by each player's name indicate the turn settled on (starting turn is 0). Players are colour coded by game class (challenger=red, adventurer=blue). Symbols indicate victory condition, if there's no symbol then the player either retired or was defeated. The yellow border indicates the land that was visible at the start of the game.

Can't believe I got this one. I messed up so badly. I gifted Mass Media to Wang Kon and waited for more than 50T for him to build UN while I could have built the UN myself with GEng i saved for rushing the build and could have gifted the city to some weakling. Should have been 1550- 1560AD. But I was afraid that the trick wouldn't work and got cold feet about that and went the safe (and stupid) path. I was lucky that only few went after diplomatic victory, and no one probably focused on it.

Good to see some new faces on the Leaderboard.. Congrats to Powerfaker and Anysense!

(good to see neil in there too)

Wanted to settle where Kukic did but retreated when I saw that it would 'ruin' fish. Good to see some healthy competition here. I wish there was more in HoF - these days its mostly just competing against old records.

If you want to feel obsolete, look at participation at the start of BOTMs. I was always sad that I missed that train and that subsequent civs never got into me.
BTW, congratulations to @Anysense and @Powerfaker, I hope you'll hang out here frequently.

I just checked and it looks like the first Civ4 game of the month was released in November 2005 - so, 14 and a half years ago. I started playing a few months later and joined the staff about 2 years later. It does seem quite a testament to how good Civ4 is that we still have enough interest to be able to run competitions after all these years - although obviously, numbers now are a tiny fraction of what they were in those days.

Thanks, and wow, I knew the score was good. But then you think, well if I can do it someone else can too. So I am very happy to land on top.

I certainly plan to play more. I like the competitive element and the twist that's often given to games here. Troubles with games crashing withheld me from playing more often sooner. I seemed to have found a workaround now.
Unfortunately I made a save error in the JC game. That was my own mistake. So I skip that one. Too bad, it's a fun map and unusual play leaning on praets for conquest.

And hopefully new players attract more new players to join in...……….???

Great tp have results so quickly and congratulations to all, especially newcomers! I wanted to see how my unfinished game compared to others, there used to be a tool where you could see a map, see player's cities, etc, growing over time, have visual of two games side by side. I cannot find it, just table of events for each game. Can somebody remind me how to find side-by-side replay?

Yes! My ploy worked! :woohoo::banana: :culture::culture::culture:

Play for culture in a game where absolutely everything tells you not to pursue a cultural victory.

Anyone else ever resorted to using Sushi and Civilized Jewelers (and broadcast towers) to win a culture game?

Yes, this is probably a faster way of winning culture than traditional wonder-spam approach. There aren't many games using this strategy, but the results to date are very encouraging.
