Well... Ahem.

Congratulations to @Kime11 for being the only person to overcome the odds in this game - with a diplo win in 1898 AD. Unfortunately @Kime11 gets no medals or awards for this achievement because it was an adventurer entry. He does though receive the lowest-scoring diplo shield - thanks to a quirk in our rules whereby the shields are open to adventurers.

The ambulances are also open to adventurers, which is lucky for @greatbeyond who is therefore given the green ambulance for the astonishing feat of actually surviving until 1969AD - when one of the AIs won the spacerace - on an adventurer save. And I should mention @Dumpfbacke who won the red ambulance for an 875 AD conquest loss while actually playing the deity game. In fact @Dumpfbacke was the only person who both played contender and finished the game without retiring!

As you might gather this game was a little bit tough. I have to admit, even though it was deity, it wasn't intended to be that tough! I prepared it in a hurry, just to get something out there for people to play while I was working on the lockdown game. And just possibly I didn't test it as much as I should've done. Sowwy! But hey, we all need a challenge from time to time

We do by the way appreciate all the people who still submitted, even though they retired (or lost) - it really helps with knowing how much interest there is in a game.

Summary of Medal Winners:

Here's where everyone settled.

The Small Print:
The numbers by each player's name indicate the turn settled on (starting turn is 0). Players are colour coded by game class (challenger=red, adventurer=blue). Symbols indicate victory condition, if there's no symbol then the player either retired or was defeated. The yellow border indicates the land that was visible at the start of the game.

Bummer. I only sat down once with this game, played to about 1500bc, kinda got bored. Now I wish I’d stuck with it. Not that I ever finish any BOTMs these days. I play them all, fyi. If I had internet at home I’d submit retired games. Sorry I don’t. (Lame excuse)

Let us never speak of this BOTM again. ;)

That was my first deity game - and let's just say I am glad to learn it was not exactly the way these games were supposed to be ;)

On the other hand, there is a silver lining - I finished in the top half of a deity BOTM :eek::eek::eek::eek: Actually with the second best deity score :lol::lol::lol::lol: wouldn't happen in any other deity game

BTW, @DS, many other people played, including @shakadabre, who seemed to do quite well, but also retired eventually. I frankly kept playing to see when and how Shaka will kill me and was amazed it was taking him so long  Choke point hill tiles definitely rule :goodjob:

Congrats to those who played and submitted this game. I played about 50 turns after the submission deadline just to see how hard it was based on the comments I saw. I can say without a doubt that I would have lost. ;)

You need an internet connection to download the starting save, no? Or do you have one of those rare connections that only allows downloads with an upload speed of 0.0 kbps?

I’m not too lazy to go to DD to download it. I’m too lazy to upload it. That’s why I said it was a lame excuse.

@WastinTime, you definitely should play the game! Would be a lot of fun if we could get some of the Deity experts to play this as a succession game. It's extremely tough but I guess if our best Deity players pool their knowledge and work together it might be winnable. Man against machine!! :borg:

Now, I wanna play it.

Haha! Well you can always download the WorldBuilder from the results page...

I have actually sometimes wondered whether it would work if we had some way for people to submit played-for-fun games after the competition closes. Obviously those games could never count as competition entries and would have to be listed separately from the competition results, but could provide a way of recording that you've played the game. That could possibly allow for 2nd attempts to play a game too. (This is just me speculating privately btw - it's not any kind of staff discussion or anything)

To be fair, you’d have to start as you would have, with appropriate starting techs. Question is, when would you have conceived of Shaka’s threat?

Ok, in reality, I can't resist gems/gold on deity, so I would have settled where MarleysGhost and NZ did.
So, unfortunately you orphan either the clam or the fish.

That’s where I settled. That’s fair Because on deity you never know how fast you need to initially tech.

I also beat him to the copper city. I wanted to rush him but his first city, on a hill, already had a 5-unit SoD plus archer. That’s when I stopped. Never got back to it.

it would be great! I was playing some old BOTMs and didn’t manage to submit Gilgamesh BOTM in time, even though it was going very well. All I care about is an ability to replay against people that submitted the original game. Would be so cool! And probably you will see that at least 2x as many people play with comparison to who submits, maybe even more
