BtS BOTM 41 Results:
:spear:

Lots of wailing and gnashing of teeth on this one... and that's just here at my desk. My own mistakes  led to a big risk of conquest defeat at the hands of Humbaba, and thus, the tightest competition this time around was for the Red Ambulance, which goes to afker for somehow managing to lose with an even lower score than everyone else who shared his fate. I really want to thank you guys who were defeated early for being such good sports about it. You are what make this a great community and keep the friendly in "Friendly Competition". :thanx:

Congratulations to Conquistador 63 who managed to outscore all the conquest victories on his way to Alpha Centauri. In addition to the Gold Medal, he earns the Fastest Spaceship award, and the Cow award as well. :goodjob:

BOTM 41 Game designer's special unofficial award:
beestar edged out Dhoomstriker for the "Foolhardiness" award for fastest challenger class victory - tied dates was decided by score. You started with no units except the settler despite strict warnings... well, congratulations. That was risky! :crazyeye:

The rest of the awards...

Who gets the "Irrational Resource" award.

One day I'll swindle myself some award... probably a cow...

Funny... that was my exact thought when I was new to the xOTM's. Its the one award I've still never even come close to winning, though. I think its harder than it sounds.

I'd be happy with anything, even a shield or an ambulance. My entire 4otM award collection consists of a single orange (religious) shield.

Pipped to the red amulance. :gripe:

My conquest defeat in 3700BC was certainly a record for me. It was an entertaining 7 minutes.

As Darth Vader said "This will be a day long remembered"

Nice!
Had I submitted I would have reached 11th place!
Not bad for my first BOTM, if only I hadn't mixed my saves....

So I want to make sure that I will not do the same mistake with my good friend Qin.

So can anyone please tell me how I can set my autosave to each turn? I can't find it anywhere in the Options menu.
EDIT : Never mind, I finally did it myself....

 Wow, my first gold medal after 5 years playing GOTM's! :old: Maybe it could serve as an example for the new players - persevere and you can make it too - hopefully it won't take you that long to get there! :p

I was very pleased to have achieved it even if I hadn't played primarily with that goal, but instead by trying for my usual and favorite VC. :) It is nice to feel like a Duckweed-level player, even if for only one day.

Thanks for the game, kcd_swede! :goodjob:

Congratuations Conquistador 63, to achieve Gold via a space victory is very impressive.

Now you only need Conquest to complete your BtS Eptathlon.

Beaten by only 4 turns by Jovan Kukic :king: , I'm happy! :D

And once again, nice to see the X-team so well represented in the top 5 :goodjob:

You are indeed a Duckweed level player and have been a consistant top player and also been generous with sharing you game progress. Great Job C63.

As for the map, I do not like irrational, so did not like it, As for the bad guys and false impression to make us think we are isolated; Brilliant :goodjob::thumbsup:. (next time can we have gems instead of all those records?;) please.) Thanks.

Congrats to winners and to the loosers; what were you doing?:) See DaveMcW's advise to build 6 settlers (and settle good cities).

Zamint3, you are on full monger mode too, aren't you? :) Next time.

Congrats to all of the winners, particularly C63! :goodjob:

Thanks as always to the staff! :goodjob: :goodjob:

Have to look back (when time permits) to see if I should have taken that religious victory opportunity that came up shortly before the UN ... I assumed there might be a pre-1000 AD religious and that the UN would garner more Global Ranking points. Of course, I conquered too much without keeping tract, and missed one vote because I was too big. Then gave a way too much and missed next one by about 1%. Had to wait for the third. Didn't help that the voting counts in the victory button, members tab seemed to be erratic, bouncing between 80% and 60% different times I looked just one turn apart without that much change on the map.

With a recent burst of shield acquisition, I am starting to get close to earning some pathetalons ...

So why did Humbaba (the modern art, right?) just roll through my fat cross and right by my warrior defended city without attacking it at about turn 10? And where was he going is such a beelining hurry?

(next time can we have gems instead of all those records?;) please.) Thanks.
I thought that we had a Gem Resource as well as Records. I liked the "Hits" Resources since they not only added some flavour to an irrational map but they also gave us sources of Happiness for Victories that didn't make it to the end game.

Even Space Victories wouldn't have needed to have bothered with the 3 Hits' Wonders, had the players chosen to skip building such Wonders.

I'm not sure that Dave's advice would have been given in the context of Humbaba, Enkidu, and irrational Resources that make settling by Corn + Wheat a very undesirable settling location.

Yeah, good job, C63. Every time that you go for Space, it's like Jesusin going for Cultural--the Award is a write-off for the rest of us! ;) :goodjob:

Nice work, beestar, in beating me in the realm of tomfoolery. :)

Well we did have a gem resource and I am sure I would prefer to have gem or any other usable resource from the get go as the random resource. As for the records, I could not figure out for the life of me what to do with it and as for the flavor, I have no clue :D

Even Space Victories wouldn't have needed to have bothered with the 3 Hits' Wonders, had the players chosen to skip building such Wonders.
So did we need to build the wonder to get it or just the technology? I would have preferd the flavor of say sheep, cow, pig, deer or even gem...what ever the flavor that may be. This talk of flavor makes me hungry.:)

Hiding in my city worked for my warrior. What can I say? we are cowards. But I get what you are saying regards to most of the losses were due to not noticing the warning or not taking it seriously. I admit to not realizing the losses were due to the special map feature when I wrote it. BTW what corn + Wheat location?

So did we need to build the wonder to get it or just the technology?
Uhhh... neither. We only needed to research Math and The Wheel... Math for a Fort, The Wheel for a Road. Build both of them on top of the Record. BAM, +1 Happiness from the Record (and the Movie and the Muscial aka theatre face).

EDIT: Scratch that, you only needed to research Math. Other than beestar and myself, the rest of you started the game knowing The Wheel.

You could have skipped building the 3 Hits' Wonders and simply built The Eiffel Tower, which would have given you Broadcast Towers everywhere, equalling up to +3 Happiness per City (if you'd managed to secure all 3 Hits' Resources using Forts or by settling on top of them).

I seem to recall Sheep and Deer being within walking distance of our capital area (depending upon how you define walking distance--a Warrior could take a hundred or so years to walk to the Deer in the early stages of the game). Based on where you settled, you had a Sheep Resource in your capital's fat cross.

BTW what corn + Wheat location?
There were Corn and Wheat Resources to the SE of our capital area, but the surrounding land area was so terrible that I did not bother to settle there.

He was beelining the closest city after turn zero was complete. That would be Tenochtitlan, unless you settled turn zero. As long as you did not put your city or your units somewhere blocking the path to Monte, that's where he ends up. But if you hadn't used your free wins to barbs yet, attacking him would yield max xp from barbs (10xp)... you should then have seen the victory odds as 100% unless you have checked the "ignore free wins" box in the BUFFY options.

So yeah, a lot of random factors had big impacts on the results, which is something I try to avoid, but just screwed up. Will redeem myself in BOTM43, just wait and see. ;)

Hmm, in my game Humbaba attacked and retreated with 1HP left. When attacking it the next turn, my victory odds where 90%. Could I really had lost?

Well, well shield! I didn't expect it.
I collected about 3 so far. Nice.

Congrats to winners, especially to C63. 5 years? So there is still hope for me, altough I've already screwed BOTM42.

@neilmeister: you missed ambulance, because you didn't pay enough attention. Afker played whole 10 minutes ;)

It is not free kills that you get, but free (invincible) battles that you get. Normally, its the same thing. But in this case, there is sizable chance that Humbaba retreats after failing to harm you. Still takes one away from your free allottment, in my observations.
