The deity difficulty didn't stop a lot of attempts to play, and a few people from actually winning. Congratulations to the six people who did managed to win: Jovan Kukic (conquest, gold), jesusin (culture, silver), neilmeister (religious, bronze), Jastow (spaceship), WastinTime (religious) and Folket (diplomatic). With almost one award per victory, WastinTime has the unusual distinction of being the only player to secure a victory without winning a fastest finish award!

Well done all! A very tough game!

Almost everyone, including all the victors, took the plains hill - a chalice which was perhaps not poisoned, but definitely iffy due to being so far from the horses and not being able to mine the copper for the production.

Here's where everyone settled.

The Small Print:
The numbers by each player's name indicate the turn settled on (starting turn is 0). Players are colour coded by game class (challenger=red, adventurer=blue). Symbols indicate victory condition, if there's no symbol then the player either retired or was defeated. The yellow border indicates the land that was visible at the start of the game.

Thanks for a wonderful game DynamicSpirit.

I'm happy about getting my first award. But it seems I have positioned myself on the top half of the scoreboard. No more adventure saves for me.

Congrats to all submitters, i am very impressed with the number of victories.

The plains hill was irresistable, shame iit had copper. I did think about the horses for a bit when they showed up, but i was already committed to religious.

I do not think I had a chance on the horses before the Khmer settled them, I probably got animal husbandry to late. Statistics show that settling on the plain hills was a good idea even if 1S or 1E looks good as well.

I was waiting for the results before starting BOTM 65. Lowest score and longest play time among the victories show that I have some time to go before I will be in top three. Seriously, neilmeister played 25 times faster and got a higher score.

I will try to stop spamming the threads now. Still just happy over the deity win.

We're not normally that fussed about who plays the adventure saves. Although the guidance suggests not playing them if you have finished in the first half of a game, in the end if someone feels the contender save will be too hard for them on a particular game and they'd rather play adventurer, then that's fine. The games are after all there to be fun. But having said all that, if you're capable of winning on deity, then you're probably capable of playing the contender save on just about any GOTM we might release :)

4th place...Almost snuck a spaceship onto the podium.

Everyone is talking about having settled on the copper almost with a ting of regret... Even if we had known before hand that this was a copper hill, I think I still would want to settle on it (Wether I would have realized this before the game is another question).

Settling on the copper hill gets the first worker out 3 turns earlier, and everything else until about 15 turns after BW with an even bigger gap than that. On Deity, being fast out of the gate to not get boxed in is essential, and by the time settling say, 1N, so that you can then mine the copper, catches up, it may be too late already.

Congrats on the space victory, not easy on Deity at all. It does seem wrong that my religious victory beats your space win and Folkets diplo, as they would have been a lot harder.

As I said in my post, the PH was irresistible, for the exact reasons you spelled out. On Deity getting a slightly fast start can make a massive difference. Also, settling on hills if you can in Deity is also very important.

But would I have preferred the copper wasn't there, and somewhere else in the BFC, hell yeah.

I was not really crying floods. But I do enjoy starts that are just not a normal start. Perhaps there will be interesting challenger starts.

My guess would be to walk away and find some food.

Great date Neilmeister. I thought my game would capture a fastest finish. Butt....spanked. :spank:

Thanks WastinTime, I got pretty lucky with automatic spreads, only having 1 missionary fail and getting the last spread with only 1 turn before the vote.

I just missed the last vote with my religion spread so I had to wait for another Resident election first and then the vote. But I still thought things went pretty well and thought I still might be ok.
