GOTM 12: Mansa Musa

This game MUST be played using Civ4 patch version 1.61.

Further, it MUST be played using HOF mod version 1.61.008.

For Mac players you need to use the Mac version of the HOF mod: Mac Mod HOF Version 1.61.009.

Game settings:
Civilization: Mali (Leader: Mansa Musa; Traits: Financial, Spiritual)
Rivals: 6
Difficulty: Prince
Map: Continents
Mapsize: Standard
Climate: cold
Water level: Medium
Starting Era: Ancient
Speed: Normal
Options: normal.
Victory Conditions: all enabled

Mansa Musa:
Mansa Musa is Financial and Spiritual; starting with the wheel and mining. Financial allows an extra gold on any tile with two or more. Spiritual allows you to change religions or civics with no anarchy period, as well as double production speed of temples.

Unique unit: skirmisher:
The skirmisher replaces the standard archer. It has strength of 4 (compared to the archer which has a strength of only 3) and costs 25 hammers. Aside from the higher strength, the other benefit of the skirmisher over the standard archer is an extra first strike chance.

The starting screenshot is here (click for a bigger version!)

Adventurer Class bonuses:
 1. Start with a worker and a scout.

Challenger Class Equalisers:
 1. Start with no technologies.

>>Go to the download page HERE.

PLEASE! Mac sure that you choose the correct version (PC or Mac)!

I'm first again  now I'll see if I can finish it first :)

EDIT : and first finish! Now I have to wait another 31 days until GOTM 13  Oh well, at least WOTM3 isn't that far away :D

Last month, the american UU came quite late in the piece, and wasn't really suited to the map type. This time, the skirmisher should be a little more useful!

LOL! You can say that again. Did anyone ever actually usefully use the UU in GOTM11? (NB. If anyone wants to reply to the question, do it in the GOTM11 final spoiler thread, not here!)

There's a problem with the challenger save. You start knowing the usual techs (mining and the wheel).

Wow - looking forward to this one... downloading now.

Sample maps were intrigueing and actually for the diffuculty level, hard to beat the AI for knowledge and hard to beat for conquest...

Only if you downloaded it in the first hour or so! Fixed now - you can get a replacement.

That just goes to show how enthusiastic I am for all the hard work you put into the save, that I can't wait for it! :D

PC file size 16 KB? Looks like smth wrong. I can't check. Can sombdy prove?

The HOF Mod compresses the bejabers out of Civ4 files. The Mac versions don't use that compression, and they are 4 times the size.

Thank you, AlanH.
Intriged what "bejabers" means, but doesnt matter, since file is OK.:scan:

I just realized that I kinda miss the cool Standard Game icon. :D Not that I don't approve the HOF Mod...

ainwood, was that a pun or a typo? ;)

Yeah, I liked that one better as well, but I figured I'd better not add to the confusion by using that one. I'll maybe try to adapt it to include the platform badges and a small HOF designation.

For some reason, the HOF mod doesn't boot properly, which is why I haven't been able to play the game so far.I get parsing errors for moreciv4lertstextinfo.xml (line 91,4) and civ4modspecdomadviseinfo,\.xml (line 145) which leads to call failures.

Can anybody help me, or point me to a thread that discusses this?

I should add that I am running a german-bought version of civ in english on a japanese windowsxp box and so far have been booting from CD because the install generated parsing errors as well. The game (including patches and blakes mod) runs well though.

Any help appreciated.

J.

There's a missing xml header in moreciv4lertstextinfo.xml, and there are numerous German (and Italian) accented characters that appear to be incorrectly encoded in civ4modspecdomadviseinfo.xml. You could try editing these files, since they are text and shouldn't be tested in the locked assets check.

[EDIT] Correction. I'm advised that the XML text *is* included in the locked assets checks, so you will not be able to edit the text. We shall have to try to fix these issues in time for the next game. Apologies.

Thanks for following up, much appreciated. Hope to join you in the next GOTM.

Cheers,

J,

@Jorunkun:

(1) I re-read your first post above, and am confused. You mention that you are booting from CD? How does that resolve Civ4 parsing errors? I would have expected Windows XP would need to be running from a writable drive? How does it handle registry settings and so on? Where is Civ4 installed, and where is the HoF Mod installed? There may be a combination of factors in your configuration that will make the mod unusable.

(2) Are you hoping to play the next WOTM (Warlords) game in a week's time? If so, it would be very helpful if you could try to load up the latest Warlords version of the HoF Mod now, and let us know how that goes. It includes the fixed header in one XML file, and it would be useful to see how much more work is needed to get you working.
