first time i'm trying GOTM and well the first time round didnt work made a couple of bad decisions and i was under attack by too many civs.

on my second try now going much better but still dont have much of an advantage.

Hmmm... there's something wrong with this comment. If you have already started the game, you're not supposed to post about it in this thread. And what's that about a "second try"? You apparently don't know that you only get one go at it. Restarting the game is a big no-no.

Well, my criteria included a) Tricia Helfer, b) unique, & c) maybe I'd include Adama if Tricia didn't take up too much of the available avatar space !!

Actually, my second choice for an avatar was the cover from the featured celeb pictorial in the February 2007 issue of a well-known gentlemen's mag with the initials "PB" previously owned by the Hefner family which had a Cylon in their birthday suit... anyway, that's gotta be off-topic. Besides, Edward James Olmos was not anywhere to be seen on the cover in that particular photo ..

Um, but back on topic, I am still yet to start this GOTM, my longest wait ever to start one.

Probably not exactly the right place to ask this.... But, please bear with me.

I have been running the old (1.6?) patch.

So to do this GOTM, I need to do the following:

Install the patch for 1.74
Install the HOF patch 1.74

Right??

When do I install the DirectX version 9.0? How do I know if I need it??

I've a general question about GoTM ... not sure if this is the right place to post it, but here it is ....

having recently discovered Civ4 I want to play the old GoTM's (just for fun eh!) ... question is ... are the early ones compatible with the latest patches ?

if you go to the GOTM website(through the links for the results of any finished GOTM) it has the worldbuilder save for each GOTM that has finished, allowing it to be loaded with/without any mods you want and in any patch version you currently have.
