GOTM131 Iroquois - Pre-game discussion

attachment.php

Happy new year everyone and welcome to the first GOTM of 2014. We begin this year with a slightly different format for GOTM. Future games will carry a required victory condition. Players must win by the required victory condition in order to qualify for an award. This first game requires a SPACE victory.

For this Monarch game you play as Hiawatha of the Iroquois. The Iroquois tribe has the expansionist and religious traits, and begin the game with the knowledge of Ceremonial Burial and Pottery. The Iroquois unique unit is the Mounted Warrior which replaces the horseman, and is stronger in attack than that unit. Like the horseman, the mounted warrior requires horses to enable it to be built.

This game continues to use a modified form of the standard GOTM mod in order to provide the chance of popping workers from huts in lieu of settlers. Note that it is still possible to pop cities from huts. Although no reports of any technical or game play issues have been reported to date, players should still be vigilant and report any non-standard behaviour to the GOTM staff.

Here is your start position.

That pale line over the hill SEx2 smells of something. If it is what i think it is (gold) then it would be a perfect place to build city 2 as soon as possible.

That said, i'm going to move the scout either E-S or E-N, to figure out the hill and the surroundings, followed by worker NW and settler N. Then i don't know. If nothing else of interest shows up, there's no reason to wander further.

2N appears to be tundra so I will avoid moving north.
Scout moves first, either 2W or 1W1SW
not seeing anything Worker may go 1N or 1NE
If nothing better is revealed I may settle 1S. I lose the BG but settle on the coast.
