I've been receiving a number of questions with regard to exploiting the trading system to gain a gpt advantage over an AI civ. Intentionally pushing the AI into a negative gpt situation is an exploit. Per the GOTM webpage: It is best to avoid the appearance of exploitation when making trades, but if you have a question about a trade and whether it is exploitive, PM me first.
Probably Steve means "Ernsworth Agreement".
Nothing said at his link about gpt trade.
After all for current starting position it is hard:
you have to have Tech advanses and strong military. And, AI pays for "your" Tech.
And we have no power to ask where from they got this money.
Negative gpt banned for human player, not for AI.
Also, AIs become more advanced and it will be harder to deal in a future.

We have to decide about that and make clear rules befor SGTOM 13 will start, (29 AIs 27 times more effective...).

Good point. I was shocked when I first saw this trick applied by team Klarius in SGotm12 IIRC.
Of course I instantly disliked it, just because we were not the ones to use it...

The more I think about it, the more I dislike it.

Of course there should still be bidirectional gpt deals possible, eg if you buy a tech from a civ per gpt and resell her another tech for almost the same amount - but not in the intention to cancel one of these deals by adding an alliance to it.

Should we do a vote for this SGotm on this topic?

At least now we can make it open and everybody may use it.
I like it, for example.
It is so many Variants of this "exploit" that to make clear rules virtually impossible.

I agree that this is a rather exploity and should be banned, if somebody can formulate a rule which covers this behaviour.

If "staff" will not work out rules, we may use it exploit open to everybody. Otherwise this game again may take 10 months. How Marsden formulated in HoF is absolutely unclear. At Sid, for example AIs allway run at defecit (in my games), without my help. But any my action make their situation worse.
If some limitation have to be posed, I see 2 possibility
1) gift more than double 999 income not allowed
2) It is not allowed to make a deal with gift at all.
But human player may not be recponcible for AIs!

To me it's absolutely clear that the exploit in question is indeed an exploit. And the exploit is not in taking gpt from the AI, the exploit is giving gpt to the AI, then trading for it back, and then finally cancelling the original deal in some way. So to formulate what should be banned, my suggestion would be:

The player is not allowed to actively cancel a deal that gives gpt to an AI if the player is at the same time receiving gpt from that same AI in another deal that would not be cancelled.

Easy enough, no?

The player is not allowed to actively cancel a deal that gives gpt to an AI if the player is at the same time receiving gpt from that same AI in another deal that would not be cancelled.
It is absurd, Edit: No, it is not. At least my example does not come to that. May be your formulation better... the only "thing point" is "
actively cancel
"
(Say make gpt and ask "Remove or Declare", or use AI's MPP, or cut trade route. It all was allowed...)
But you got a point. It is a "gpt gift". It looks that I found formulation in Gotm thread..

eldar's the new guy!

This post was not spam.:scared:

1. Which level .....? Any level, not many wins at Demigod/deity
2. Are you new to SGOTM? Yes, lots of practice with Civ III, PTW, and conquests since they came out.
3. Do you have any preferences...? Perhaps Team Klarius, but it doesn't really matter.

A european team perhaps?

Sorry to the Smurkz, but I must pass. I'm too busy at work (which is making it's way home now too) to commit to any play time. Especially the playtime that I always get stuck with at the end of the game...:p

Good luck and I'll lurk when I can.

CF, you know you're always welcome and appreciated whenever you drop by. :)

OK, I'm back from my travels, and a bit bushed. Thanks for the sign-ups, and thanks for the summary, Wacken.

I'll try to post draft team lists based on the info to date tomorrow.
