Civilization 5 - Game of the Month Training Series Game 194
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\//////////////////////////////////////////
Welcome to the 194th game in the GOTM V Training Series! This Series will allow new and old GOTM fans to try out these features from Civ5's expansions and DLCs in a friendly environment. Participants are encouraged to post questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads (described below). Each game will specify the Civ you will play and the Victory Condition to strive for. You can read more about the GOTM and Training Series concept in this thread.
Must Read!
We would like to ask you to abide by our most sacred rule: Dont replay any turns! If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to 1 turn. In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous save and play it as closely to how you played it the first time. Please let Leif, Hammer Rabbi or me know (either in the forums or through Private Message) if you experienced a crash and how many turns you replayed.

Information about threads associated with each individual TSG -- Must Read if you are new to our Game of the Month!
Spoiler :
Please note: If you wish to make a video of your game, please do not post any links to it until after the game submission date has passed. This is because of the potential spoilers that are created by posting before the end date. Thank you for your cooperation.
TSG Announcement thread (this one): This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (dont be afraid to ask questions). Its also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Please dont post any game-related info once you open and play the save. Instead use the next thread.
After Actions thread: In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state your victory/loss date (preferably in the post title) and describe your path to glory in this post! Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after one month, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.
Results and Congratulations thread: We will create a separate thread with the results at the end of the one month submission period (sorted by earliest date and highest score ). We will issue a medal to the top winner (based on earliest date finished for each VC). There are no long-term records kept for these results, they are just given out to top finishers to reward their efforts.

File Upload System
We have a game file upload system you can find here. Please use it to upload your completed first attempt by saving the game on the turn after your victory or defeat. (by using the "lemme play one more turn" feature) Please note: you must submit your game on the turn following Victory. If you continue to play, the game overwrites the data and your submission could be rejected by the submission system.
This game runs for a month and ends June 18, 2020.
The save is available for download now [/]

Wow, that's an amazing start! If we're able to get Desert Folklore and Petra its game over. It is possible since its Emperor. But its also Sandstorm so every Civ will be able to get DF and build Petra so its not guaranteed. Plus, its the largest map size on Quick speed, domination might be tough.

I'm assuming ruins are on since it doesn't say they're not. So does that mean Scout Scout then Shrine. Or one Scout and then switch to Shrine as soon as Pottery is done? Even when I build a Shrine early as possible I still find that there's a couple civs that somehow get a Pantheon way early.

Regardless, I'm moving to the Sugar/River/Mountain tile and settling on T0. I'll move the warrior N to the hill just to see. But unless there's an amazing wonder there, I'll settle the Sugar next to the mountain. Even if there's an amazing wonder I still probably will.

Quick pace, huge map, no city razing is an interesting combination. (not necessarily in a good way) ;) I don't see any reason not to settle in place, but I'll move my warrior north to take a peek first anyhow. I like having marble and sheep in the 2-ring. If I go Liberty, the gems are a good spot for another city. If I go Tradition, I will pick up the gems eventually, it just won't be a workable tile unless there's another city within 3.

I've started a practice game with these settings, and I have no idea how to play it. I might do a couple of practice games.

Maybe take out your nearest neighbor during your first golden age if they look easy or are crowding you, then switch to a peaceful science game? Tech far ahead of everybody, then take out just the capitals with bombers and tanks or X-Coms? I don't know. Huge map means eleven capitals to take and they will be surrounded by crappy cities that you can't raze That's a large empire to hold together if you try to Alexander it.

I only played about 100 turns on my practice games to get a feel for it, then started into the real one. I still have no idea what my strategy is. :) That's all I can say about it.

What is a practice game? Do you do a practice game with this file?

Create a game using the same settings, especially the same map type and size, speed, and leader. It's just to get a flavor for it and maybe develop a strategy. Who knows what surprises KT editted into the file (or didn't)

Some of us do play the same GOTM game multiple times if it's a fun or especially challenging one, but only the first time counts.

This might be fun. I always like Persia and I usually find Sandstorm maps interesting.

Most of the time its minor edits, though I have done some full map designs in the past. The April fools Carthage map took a few hours to finish.
