Participants are encouraged to post questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads (described below). Each game will specify the Civ you will play and the Victory Condition to strive for. You can read more about the GOTM and Training Series concept in this thread.
Must Read!
We would like to ask you to abide by our most sacred rule: Don’t replay any turns! If you make a mistake, accept it and try to recover. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to 1 turn. In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous save and play it as closely to how you played it the first time. Please let Leif, Hammer Rabbi or me know (either in the forums or through Private Message) if you experienced a crash and how many turns you replayed.

Information about threads associated with each individual TSG -- Must Read if you are new to our Game of the Month!
Spoiler :
Please note: If you wish to make a video of your game, please do not post any links to it until after the game submission date has passed. This is because of the potential spoilers that are created by posting before the end date. Thank you for your cooperation.
TSG Announcement thread (this one): This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don’t be afraid to ask questions). It’s also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Please don’t post any game-related info once you open and play the save. Instead use the next thread.
Opening Actions thread: This thread is used to discuss the game's opening decisions and strategies through the first 100 or so turns. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. We encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshot. During the time the game is active, please do not post any information concerning the game outside of the spoiler threads including screen shots, videos, or recorded/live-cast Let's Plays on other websites.
After Actions thread: In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state your victory/loss date (preferably in the post title) and describe your path to glory in this post! Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after one month, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.
Results and Congratulations thread: We will create a separate thread with the results at the end of the one month submission period (sorted by earliest date and highest score ). We will issue a medal to the top winner (based on earliest date finished for each VC). There are no long-term records kept for these results, they are just given out to top finishers to reward their efforts.

File Upload System
We have a game file upload system you can find here. Please use it to upload your completed first attempt by saving the game on the turn after your victory or defeat. (by using the "lemme play one more turn" feature) Please note: you must submit your game on the turn following Victory. If you continue to play, the game overwrites the data and your submission could be rejected by the submission system.
This game runs for a month and ends march 15th, 2019.

Hi, the save attached is actually TSG139 and its different than the start picture above (3 gems and marble)

Note - There's two distinct game files that have been linked:

TSG179_Start.Civ5Save (516.9kb) (529kb)
  • Epic
  • Raging Barbarians
  • No Ancient Runes
  • Emperor
  • Start is the same as image posted in the opening Thread
The Save can be found here. TSG139_Start (1).civ5save (543kb)
  • Emperor
  • Standard
  • Raging Barbarians
  • No Ancient Ruins
  • Science Victory
  • Has 3 Gems
  • I believe this was GOTM 139

SIP seems to be the way here...but hard to know where the mountain range is. I think I'll SIP and beeline Petra and hope that works!

Since it is Continents plus, staying on the coast seems logical, but the early game production seems horrifying with SIP. With RB turned on, I will likely open up Honor.

It does seem like SiP is the way to go. But yea, there will be a serious lack of hammers. And you probably won't even want to use a Terrace Farm on those two visible hills because you'll need mines there.

Maybe move west and settle on the coastal hill next to the mountain. You'd still get some flood plains and likely have better production to the west. Then also build the second city to the NW to get the marble and rest of the flood plains.

But with the second plan you lose out on desert folklore, which is possible on Immortal and would be awesome. I don't think Petra is worth it either way because it doesn't work on floodplains.

You can't even move the warrior anywhere that will be of help. I guess I'll move him NW and then decide where to settle. Maybe even wait a turn and move the warrior twice.

Is the game pace standard or epic? (it's been listed both ways; I haven't downloaded it yet to check) If it's epic, it doesn't hurt too bad to explore for a turn or two before settling. SIP is almost good, but I think the lack of hammers could be fatal at Immortal. I will probably move my settler west and and warrior east and see what they can see.

I build Petra recently when most of my desert tiles were flood plains. I forgot Petra doesn't work on them. The extra trade route and the free caravan were still nice, but the extra hammer and food only affected a couple of tiles. It was still worth it, but that was an Emperor game where I had a high production start, unlike here.

Edit: It is standard pace. Also I didn't notice before, it's Continents Plus.

It's a weird looking start.

I think I have to SIP, but as mentioned, it looks horrible with hammers - plus I see tundra to the SE. I'll want to buy the 2 hills to the west before I build settlers, but with no ancient ruins where is the gold going to come from? On that note, I'll prob go Monument first and then open Honor before moving into Tradition. 2 chops to the SE will help with settlers and I guess a lumber mill on that third forest tile to the S/SW eventually.

Less mountain hills than with earlier shot, that is for sure!
SIP. Maybe Slingers instead of Scouts? Raging barbs, so they level up easily, and the UA lets them move pretty well.

Never played the Inca before. Doesn't soud like an easy win for me...

I also see no argument for some other location than to SIP.

Yikes, that's an ugly start location. Tempted to check out the coastal hill, but I'll grudgingly settle in place. Excited to play this open win standard/standard game.

I assume I'm not the first person to get the "Configuring Game Data" issue when trying to load the save attached, and then getting the runtime error crash? It's only when trying to load the GOTM saves (I've tried previous editions also).

Is there any known solutions to this?

The first question is whether you have all the dlc and are using the same version of the game in which it was created?
Game Version: This game was created in Civ5 Brave New World version 1.0.3.279.
Game Requirements: all leader dlc, Explorers maps, Wonders of the Ancient World DLC. Gods and Kings expansion, Brave New World Expansion.
The second is whether you are using any mods? We do not use mods in GOTM and some may conflict with the game save.

It is an older thread, but this may also help.

I've been having trouble with the game starting lately; not always but sometimes. I go into the task manager (Control+Shift+Escape) and kill the Steam bootstrapper task (that ends all the Steam stuff in one shot) and then it will start. HTH.

I'm using the same version, have all the dlc, and don't have any miss installed. The only thing I haven't tried is reinstall - wanted to check here before going through the trouble.

I'll check out the link too - thanks.
